new valve idea

the stem would be a long piece, going out the back of the cylinder to atmosferic pressure…then little force would be needed to knock it open, as the seal would not be pushing against highpressure but merely 1atm
this i turn would allow for some wickedly large valveseats that would be able to move serious amounts of air
downside is that it might prove difficult to seal where the piston sticks out the back…i know if i am going to try make one, i would make a cap on the end so if it decides to blow an oring the pressure will be pointed away
the drawing is not to scale…the size of the chamber would have to calculated…it could be longer and fatter…shoulderrest could still be attached…or the AF bottle could be used….IF AF bottle is used and the tupe stays relatively short the rifle would still be take down rifle..only few inches longer
it could allow for a cheek rest thats lower than it is now so use of lower mounted sights are possible….
once would have to roate the collar on the rifle…but since the hammer hitting the wont need to be stronger than the regular AF mounting system, i dont see that as a problem
i didnt draw the valve designs…as one could use the sime AF design…or go for something like i have done with my ,45 valve with springs under the tophat etc….so use your imagination

If you are close enough to King city (a little south of Monterey), I used to hunt the Hunter Liggett Military reservation. Good Dove, Quail, Hog, and squirrel populations. Don’t know what it’s like now but they used to have a really good game mgmnt program and civilians were welcome with a small license fee.
Several years ago we had to make a trip to Cali. for a funeral on my Wife’s side … she was pregnant and had complications after we got there and was ordered to bed rest only for the rest of her term.
Long story short we stayed for 8 months total and I felt like a fish out of water ! I was mighty glad to get back to Tennessee 😀
right now im not gonna make the valve…so anyone who want to try feel free, thats is why i posted it…so someone with the machinery and skill could give it a go
well after hours of searching, i found a place called ventana wilderness which should be open to hunting…and not too far away, however trying to find maps of the area, if theres restrictions to certain areas of the wilderness to hunt online was futile…im about to just give up.
It’s because Californians privatize everything. The processes then become nonuniform because each owner has their own thoughts on ‘rules’ but in the final analysis, they are completely unaccountable for whatever they want to do. Something like how ebay runs their little corner of the ‘net.

hehe pellets where what i had at hand for the censor ship …cant just give all the secrets away…it might look like someone elses…when i came up with it i had not seen one like that before…but soon after others where posting the same idea….i was inspired by some talks on this forum and combined some of my own ideas…and others probably did the same..and so more than one person came up with the same basic design…great minds think alike…
california…sorry to sound negative…but other then the nice low humidity…i cant say i like it much…cant shoot in my yard….no place to go shoot without 90minute/mile drive…hunting license 450% more expensive…rules are even more confusing than MA(shotgun ok here but not there…bow only here…rifle here, but not there…and every park seems to have its own rules about whats to hunt instead of following the general open time for species outlined in general for this state)…dont have my workshop space as i used to…cant fire anything loud in house cause of single sheet glass windows, and garage has open holes to outside….one of the close by houses has a little piece of shit dog….that barks for hours on end…house prices near san jose are the worst in the whole country, rental prices are through the roof
but other than that…yeah its great…theres some great winding mountain roads to take the SI for a spin in…thats great fun, i just dont get it….i drive through so much unused land…and its fenced in with barbed wire, and no trespassing signs all over….
if anyone know of a place to go shoot not necersarely hunt….please let me know….SP from AA forum showed me a place in the desert…a loong drive away…and too hot to really enjoy for more than a few hours
I thaught spooky meant tandem as in the tandem air cartriges that Brocock used to make.
I was working on something similar but not valve related. I have one of those plastic gladiator stocks for my tank but have never been able to use it due to the raised eye level. I drew up something that looks allot like what you have drawn there but I have my tank at a slight downward angle. I never thought to bring the valve out of the back of the upper area although Ive been trying to fit a regulator in there that is outside air vented. I wonder if all that could fit in there ).

yes is left out the spring….theres supposed to be one, but i left it out as i would pretty much do the valve as my bigbore valve was done
a hole in the valvebody to atm pressure would do the trick too
a paintball regulator between the top and bottom or between bottom and tank is another posibility
Cyg, that is the way Dave(Spooky) made his valve. without the tandem reservoir just went all the way to the end of his reservoir to pull on the stem
The challenge would be to get it closed. Man would it open easy though:)

Another benefit in your design cygnus, you could build in some kind of regulating assembly between the tank and the valve chamber…

That’s pretty much what i’ve come up with as well.
Only difference is, mine was an inline design, with a springhouse that was connected to the atmosphere with a really small hole through the valve body.
It had edges binding on some of the o-rings though, so it’s probably not a very practical design.
I have my drawings around here somewhere…
Maybe i’ll try and draw something up in solidworks or something, i’ll get back to you on that.

Terrain = medium rolling hills with plenty of oak trees, several river beds/dry creek beds with thicker cover, cottonwood trees and similar; taller steeper terrain on western side bordering national forest. some large open grass flats. Look at Jolon that is where the Campground is we used to stay in; (about 30 mins sw of King City) Mapquest with airiel view will give a good idea of the terrain.
