Newbie from S. Texas – introduction
Just registered here a couple of days ago and already I’ve been getting some good info and some parts from Royce and WOK.
By way of intro, I’m a widower and an early retiree (2-2004) and moved to S. Texas (78537) from Colorado about 3 years ago.
I’ve owned a Condor since 2005. It originally had an Airhog LDC, but I removed and shredded that after reading a cross section of legal opinions about a year ago. Opinions clearly vary and I don’t pretend to know. As we used to say in my former trade, “it’ll come down to a jury decision”. Because of a background as a former car forensics guy (civilian SME) and seeing how LE works (or sometimes, malfunctions), my course of action is one of caution.
The good ol’ Condor allegedly/reportedly/I’m not swearing to it/ sent out about a dozen very dangerous feral stray (probably rabid) dogs feet up after animal control and the sheriff (allegedly) refused to do anything about the problem after several months. Reportedly, one 20.5 gr Logun Penetrator, one less problem. Same even for “large” problems, which surprised me. I have a history of head injuries, so maybe I just dreamed it all. OK, enough legal dodges.
Since I’m now shy of using a removable LDC, just switched it over to a TSS barrel and cap. Working on baffles based on what I’ve seen here and it’s pretty good even shooting indoors here at home. Accuracy remains stellar and it still sounds like it’s hammering the Logun Penetrators into the bullet trap. No chrono yet.
In Sept 2008, I bought a VA foreclosure for a song in the Colorado mountains (1200 SF on 2 heavily wooded acres — fixer upper — no garage yet, dang it!) W. of Walsenburg with hopes to get back closer to home so I can help my parents more. Their health is goin’ downhill a bit too fast as is all too common approaching age 80. My ‘new’ property is on “Comanche Drive”, so it’s nickname is 10 Bears, hence my moniker in here.
Lots of deer, elk, bears, squirrel and too darned many raccoons. Well, for now, anyhow. Supposedly turkeys and blue grouse, too though I’ve not yet seen ’em. I plan to go there in the spring to start fixing it up and to build a garage. Spend summers in CO, winters in S. TX at least ’til the Texas house sells. But that could take a year or two, or at least I hope so… give me a chance to adjust to cold Colorado again…
Well, enough of my life history. I’ll jump in with some questions now and then. Might post some pics if anything noteworthy happens. Probably only things I wouldn’t have to “allege”.
Thanks to all for the neat forum and all the great info!
