Q:

Newbie post for 9mm/308 conversion info…

Hi, just joined this list. Nice thing you guys have going here. I don’t have an AF gun yet, but I do have several other brands, DAQ, Air Arms, Beeman, BAM, Shin Sung, etc etc. My interest is in big bore hunting and I want to assemble an AF gun in either 9mm or 308. I have a few questions; is there a FAQ for assembling one of these that someone could point me to? Also, would the Talon or Condor platform be a better place to start for, say, a 150 fpe 9mm? My primary concern is quietness and accuracy. Must be able to stack pellets at 25 yards as discreetly as possible. If anyone out there has a AF body to sell, please contact me via email. What are the best valves for this sort of project, and where do I get them? Any help appreciated. I will also be posting this same message to the Condor forum…

LMAO!!

I didn’t realise this was an OLD post!
I thought you were taking the piss Walt…. 😆 😆

Hi people, where do you get your barrels and other parts then? Does anybody offer an upgrade package like talon tunes and their .25?

What Mark do you mean. My name is Marc.

Did some bigbore stuff before too!

regards,

Marc

walt,

The CO2 adapters are relatively inexpensive. they utilize a condor valve and bottle adapter. Woudd make a good “donor” valve body. minimal macining would be required to set up for “big bore”. Boring out of the valve stem guide/spring retainer, and making a new tophat, stem, and valve poppet. Be a good jump start vs making one from scratch.

Dave, thank you for the reply. I’ve been reading whatever I can find on the site and trying to bring myself up to speed, and I think you’ve hit the nail on the head; the valve is the heart of the system and seems to be the part that is the most difficult to arrange for when modding up to bigger calibers. There’s a lot to assimilate and I think I’ll just have to jump in and give it a go to really learn anything, I’m trying to arrange to find a reasonably priced body. If Blodnob or Mark reads this message and can spare the time to produce a big bore valve for me, please email me or call!

Hey, Walt, don’t think you’re going to find a tutorial or FAQ, but keep reading, lots of guys do big bores here, and are really good about posting info. The only real difference between the Condor and Talon platforms is the valve, and since you’d probably end up with a custom valve anyway, I’d say buy whichever’s cheapest. I know Sean aka Blodnob has built some big bore valves, I know his “regular” valves are kick ass, I have one. There’s others here who build them, I just don’t know if they sell them. Sorry I can’t be more help, but maybe someone else will jump in now. Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress.

Dave
