Noisy New talon SS
Hi Guys,
Firstly thanks for a great forum, I have learnt so much in such a short space of time 😀
I have just received my new Talon SS from Pyramyd Air and it is extremely noisy out the box. Had it on the range today with other mates, all of who had springers, and I was kinda embarrassed at the noise levels, whether it was set to power 2 or power 8!
The reason I bought the SS over a Condor was because all the reviews and advice was that it was QUIET (quieter than most anyway). PA calls it a 2 on their sound scale, and I have shot quiet a few PCP’s and springers, and my new baby cries the loudest!
So I have only put half a tin through it so far, will it eventually quieten down?
Anything else I can do, besides going the Talon Tunes route?

The DIY hardware solution will help a bit… If you’re just plinking consider a low fill of 1400psi and shoot lighter pellets. Tuning the top hat to reduce wasted air also helps. You will need a chronograph for the tuning process.
Thanks for the advice guys, appreciate it. I will check out your recommendations and see what I can sort out. If not, there are no restrictions in importing silencers into South Africa and I have family that can bring it for me in December, cheers.

DIY are marginal improvements at best. One of the experts here can get that SS so quiet all you will hear is the hammer slap and pellet impact.
The Talon SS does not get quieter with use. You need a moderator on the end. I own a Subssonic and am well pleased with price and performance.
However, I don’t know about exporting such items out of the U.S. Since you guys can use moderators over there, why not check locally for a new or used one made for the Talon SS.

There are several people here that can make inserts for your talon ss for a fair price. Check out the forsale section. You can try the hardware store and do it yourself but I tried it and it sucks.

That sticky covers several ways to quiet down the SS with off the shelf hardware store parts. I have used the hair rollers, and scotch brite with a spacer method to lower the report. Very back yard friendly. Not as quiet as if I had drilled my front bushing, and vented the frame with a single hole, but good enough for where I live.
