Q:

Non-lead pellet for Edgun– CA banned lead today

So, today California has started the ball rolling on banning lead ammo for hunting.

I’m kind of in shock. But it won’t be enforced till 6 years from now.

So, I guess it’s not too early to start looking for the right non-lead pellet, or thinking about adjustments to the Edgun itself.

What non-lead ammo will shoot out of high-velocity PCP’s, especially the Edgun that is designed with JSB lead in mind.
Anybody ever shoot them out of high-powered PCPs?

Are non-lead pellets accurate to a hundred yards. What do they do to the barrel? Are “green” pellets just plain any good?

What’s interesting is their supposed reasoning behind it yet nothing about all the lead weights fishermen lose In the water supplies. Just another way to erode the 2nd.

quote acourvil:

AB711 applies to firearms, not air guns. Obviously a bad development for hunters generally,
and may be a precursor to the same restriction for pellet guns, but right now it does not apply. For firearms,
it will not take effect before 2015, and there is an uncertain implementation period between 2015 and 2019.

Thanks for clearing that up. I not going to worry about it then.
But if these people are worried about lead,
I hope they don’t try to argue that pellets should be included.

VarmintAir (Cliff) shoots non-lead pellets all of the time in CA and has very good luck with some of the rounds. Unfortunately, he doesn’t own an Edgun. The good news is he probably owns 20 other PCPs. Check out his blog. I know he uses the Dynamic pellets when he can get them.

There is no good non-lead pellet at the moment for Edgun.
