Q:

Not a scope expert

With my .25 Talon SS I had a 3-9x42mm scope mounted on it because I never had to shoot past 40yds. at anything . Now I also have a .25
Vulcan and I put that same scope on it and have it zeroed at 50 yds. and with the right grain pellet at 58yds. it is dead on center . I also
have hit my target out to 192yds. with this scope . I would like to up grade this scope from a 3-9x42mm to a scope that will have better
power optics out to at least 200yds. and one that will not cost an arm and leg for . What I would like to know is what optic power would
work best out to 200yds. only because I know my Vulcan can shoot that far and I really do not plan on shooting game at 200yds. but if
something came up at 150yds. it would be fun to give it a shot . Mainly my objective would be to shoot from 3yds. out to 100yds. with the
best optic view possible . Today is not like 45 years ago , scopes have come a long way since then and I do like a mil-dot scope . So anyone
who really knows scopes and their optic powers for what I would be interested in please fell free to give your thoughts .

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a scope there is only one option…SWFA. Scopes from China are garbage. You must buy a scope from the Philippines Japan or Germany. I know a lot of guys here seem to like leapers but I really think that those scopes aren’t worth using for a paper weight. Think of a long range airgun the same way you would think of a long range 6.5 mm or 30 cal rifle. The amount of drop at 100-200 yards is between 13 inches and 119 inches. Way more than a 308 at 500 yards. You need a good scope with an excellent reticle. The Vulcan is a very capable rifle don’t short change it with a big heavy Chinese scope.

FYI I have a Brand New Falcon Menace 5.5 – 25 x50 w illuminated b20 reticle for sale now simply because I did a side by side with the MTC and chose it. Was like $80+ to ship back to Britain so here she sits…if your interested I’m only asking $500 shipped CONUS and it’ll save you the import paperwork..good luck in your choosing!

Leapers / UTG makes some very affordable scopes with pretty good optics.

If your wallet can stand a little bit more of a hit you should look at Hawke. Their scopes are affordable and their optics are as good as scopes costing two or three times as much.

It might have something to do with my “aging eyesight”, but I just cannot “see” spending over $1000 for a scope, most especially since there are choices for less than half of that just as nice. I guess if I was upper middle class with a pretty much unlimited toy fund I might do such, but then again I might not.

Now as far as the power of the scope, that will depend on what you are doing with it. If you are shooting strictly target, you will likely want real high power, say up to 32X. If you are hunting open country, this will also work but keep in mind that high power scopes are big and heavy. If you are hunting woodland, a one hundred yard shot is a long shot and you need a whole lot less scope, up to 12X and certainly no more than 18X. I say that because when your scope is on such high powers, rapid target acquisition becomes difficult. Also when the top power is high, the low power setting is relatively high also, although there is a new generation of scopes coming out that have expanded the magnification range. Of course right now they cost more.

Bushnell 6X24 is a bit more affordable. I have a Bushnell 4500 Elite in the 6X24 X 40. Wouldn’t trade it.

How about Falcon Menace 8-25×50 ffp with enhanced mil-dot reticle? I’ve zeroed on this.
