Not Sure What To Do…Continued POI Shift
I recently posted a topic related to barrel fouling and after a good cleaning, things tightened up….Thought my troubles were solved…..but things started going south after a couple of targets. So, I switched scopes and sure ’nuff things tightened up for a couple of targets then POI started shifting and groups started spreading. So I tried changing lubricants on the pellets from Finish Line Krytech to FP-10…and you guessed it things improved only to fall apart.
I picked up a Mad Dog Ultima Long stock…which of course helped quite a bit. BTW, KnifeMaker has a very good idea to shim gap between bottle and stock to negate bottle flex. I used a rubber wine cork, cut lenght-wise and sanded til it fits snug…that also helped but then groups widened up.
I thought about changing shooters to get rid of the “me” variable…but right now none are around this area that I know, so, I got out the trusty Marauder .25. It shot very tight and consistent.
I did read on the Yellow where there is speculation about POI shift being related to the AF barrel bushings. Adam SoCal makes an interesting, low cost suggestion to shellac the barrel bushings with fingernail polish, let dry then press them in to over come the gap issue. I’ll try that. Doug (Dyotat100) makes larger bushings that improve accuracy he has helped Tofazfou and his .257 setup….that’s a thought.
The next move is to tear the gun completely apart and clean it thoroughly. I’ll coat the main tube/hammer/spring with Finish Line Teflon. Then I’ll reassemble and use Blue Loctite on all screws. Not sure if I’ll fingernail polish at this time but why not? Also I have one more scope/rings combo to try…. a Leapers tactical side focus scope.
I’ll roll the barrel on plate glass to check that it’s true…while it’s out of the gun.
After that….I’m out of ideas. I really like this gun but if it continues to shoot this bad, I might have to cut my losses and go for something else.
I hate being beaten so if anyone has ANY suggestions please let me know. I’m including yesterday’s target, (30 yards starting at top left at 3000 psi shooting off a bench with bag). It might speak for itself. Looks like things tightened up towards the last few groups but there still was a little shift also the last group was shot 54-60 so pressure was getting low.

WOK is right ❗ my tape has eventually dryed and shrunk. J
But I’m stuck using tape for a flashlight and bullet camera because they are to loose in the scope rings to use nail polish.
Don’t use tape around the bushing.
Take the bushing and coat the O.D. with finger nail polish and let it dry. Once dry press fit it to the frame for a tight custom fit. It is almost like bedding your bushings to your gun.
That how you remove the variance between the bushing and frame.
Great to follow this thanks. In my case it is the barrel bushing grubs that fit to the frame coming lose and causing loss of POI. I plan to add an extra bushing and to use a thread with a head as opposed to a plain grub screw to hold the bushing in place better. I may also try the tape around the bushings as it was something I had thought of trying before I saw the tip.

Thought I’d get back to this with some new info. Airforce sent new parts. Got them all in place and the gun is shooting very well now. Nice tight groups with only the occasional flyer or hiccup from me. I need to try the masking tape test to check for concentric alignment. Very pleased with the “new rifle” though. Much obliged for y’all’s help.

I don’t know how long Rachel has been with AIR FORCE AIR GUNS , but when I first bought my Talon SS and had an air pressure leaking problem
with it , she told me that it may be a problem with my pressure gauge or with my air fill port . That I could send my gun to them under full
warrenty and they would fix it at no charge or I could apply soapy water to either port and see if it was leaking and if so if I felt that if I had
the ability to loosen the port that was leaking very slowly until the air tube emptied and then reapply plumbers’ tape to the port threads and
see if that stopped my air leaking problem . That was 1 1/2 years ago , I was able to fix the problem myself without having to send my gun in .
Rachel is not only a very friendly employee of AIR FORCE AIR GUNS , she is also a helpfull person to deal with .

I really like my Talon SS and have had it for years. I have been around this rodeo for awhile and typically we can sort it out.
Some do not have the patience nor the ability to fix or fine tune their guns. I am glad you were open for letting us help.
Rachel is a nice lady for sure, even if she does say we are the forum that always talks trash about airforce guns…lol
We try to talk the truth and sometimes that hurts to hear, but then again we have probably helped them make a lot of money off the R&D we have done here over the years.

Got to give a shout out to AF customer Service…they were very helpful and called me back to say new barrel bushings, baffles and a few other parts were on the way free of charge. Rachel at AF is a real sweetheart..she really sounded very concerned and stayed on it with their techs. They want the old baffles back (prepaid) for inspection and that show to me a concern for continued QC.
So I’ll put one more note on the TAG once I get er all back together and zeroed in. Fingers are crossed.
Well it’s beginning to warm up a little so happy shooting…

Yeah, I’m tenacious when it comes to problems….but now I still have to figure out if things are centered. Will try the muzzel tape test.

I’ll get up with AF and see about getting new baffles…may have to send it in to have alignment checked…but it’s still under warranty.

Good work sourcing that problem. You just wouldn’t think they’d touch the pellet as the internal bore looks generous. It is very satisfy when you find the problem. :fishinghole:
