This is a picture of the valve used in the original.
This is the pump.
It worked by the user screwing the buttstock/reservoir to one end, and the other end was screwed into a tree. Then the whole unit was pumped in and out to charge it!!

Id be screwed here in the desert ). It always amazes me at the ingenuity of the older guns. They built things when there wasnt even tools to build stuff with. Those were the true inventors.
