Q:

Nuts.

Got my breech done as far as needing to put the sear-indent in but Chesters sent me the wrong clamping-kit and I have no way of securing the piece to the mill-bed. And the three-way vice I bought is too tall to fit under the cutter.

Apart from that everything’s gone reasonably well.

Lang, you can make a quick and dirty holder using a bit of angle iron. Just weld the angle iron with the angle facing up so it looks like a V; weld it to any scrap piece of flat metal that you can bolt onto your mill table. Then just lay the breech into the V and use a hose clamp (like on your car’s radiator hose) to hold it in. Shim if not horizontal, but it’s a short cut for the sear recess so line of sight flat should be fine.

Shit. 😆

I stood in my workshop for a good half-hour trying to think of a work-around. Even tried Dremelling the indent with a grindy-wheel, but that went nowhere fast. I have a 3″ angle-plate, and found a couple of nuts and bolts that would hold it down in the t-slots, but no way to hold the piece to the angle-plate. Guess what I have in my tool-chest? Yeah, hose-clamps (or jubilee-clips as we call them here).

I’ll give that a whirl tomorrow. Cheers mate. 😀

Oh yeah, I followed the advice and cut the o-ring grooves all proper (blind-side). Made a nice little cutter from an allen-key too, which was much easier than the last one as it was square and right-angled etc.

Don’t say I don’t listen. 😛
