Q:

Official Yellow Ninja crittercam

Now that I have a High Speed connection I’m using skype and figured I’d get a webcam… since I dont really do much video conferencing and being the wierdo air gunner that I am (those who remember the coyote early warning system already know this..) I decided to set my newly purchased web cam up pointing at a random (More like as far as a USB cable would reach) spot in my yard hoping to see something and also to test out the motion capture before I go and buy a USB extender and mount it in a more suitable spot. There will be food put out later (But no shooting…).

I’m also streaming the footage for your viewing pleasure –

Let me know if it does/doesnt work and maybe you’ll get lucky and see the elusive YN. Thanks !

FYI – Webcam is a Lorex mCam for $19.99 from Best Buy (on sale from $99… so I bought 5…) and using yawcam software to stream.

Speaking of WOK…. looks like CA doesnt have enough food so he stopped by to steal mine….

How do I know its WOK? I’d recognize this ass anywhere !

quote Shadoh:

Hell, we dont even need you anymore YN.

Thats what WOK’s been saying all along… !!

Ok, now can you set it up for motion and rig it up to trip an electric actuator that pulls the trigger on your airgun? And then if you could get it to recognize shapes you could weed out the bad targets. After it makes the shot you could have it auto post a pic here.

Got a Kitty cat on the critter cam right now.

The software used to steam it over the internet has motion capture. Unfortunately it just records stills and not video, but it does have “burst capture” so If you set it to record a set number of stills every few hundredth’s of a second you can get something akin to video if you put them together. I have other software that has video motion but that’s kinda iffy and doesn’t allow streaming so well.

This is only the second time I’ve had it running actually, so haven’t caught anything on it.

Looks good. Right now it’s about as exciting as……… watching grass grow. Can see the wind blowing the trees in the background.

In the past what have you captured? Do you just recording everything or can you set it to be motion activated?

I finally received a USB extender that uses an Ethernet cable so I can run the camera well away from the computer.

So the Webcam is now in my back yard. Using a Soda bottle to protect the camera/extender incase it starts to rain.

With that, I am happy to announce that the new and improved (Allegedly) Critter Cam is up and running !

I checked the motion capture file.. nothing at all, and the pile does look untouched. I guess cat food and/or being so close to the house isnt that appealing.

Critter cam will be down for “maintenance”.

nice view

OMG!! I just saw Bigfoot.

That’s pretty cool Ninja 😀

quote Sotxguy:

Streams well. Looks like a window ceil, the ground and a tree in upper right corner and now a hand with wedding ring and trees, no critters!

Ha… I was raising it up a little so the window sil wouldn’t be in view and to try and cut down on reflection…

Its now sitting on my front step, picture behind glass sucked and it was too far away from the ground to see anything even with IR. Theres a small pile of dry cat food to try and attract something. Will let it run all night and see what the motion capture software has for me in the morning.

Yeah I’m sorry about the scenery.

Seems that reflection from the IR LED’s is a problem when its behind glass. I did have it outside, but the computer it was connected too was acting up… was a nicer image, but no one could connect, including me.

It works fine I just don’t know how much I want to watch grass grow :P. At least show the occasional porno or something lol. Just joking.
