Q:

OK, I’m confused again…

So I’ve spent the last month and a half just trying to get my gun to shoot at a consistent velocity (ie, not having to shoot 20 shots to get to the 950fps range then 2 shots later being at 1100fps). I’m using Kodiaks in my .22 Condor and I’ve finally been able to get a constant string of 15 shots at ~960fps….

BUT

The only place I’ve found I can get a nice string of shots is if I fill the tank to 1900psi and set the Power Wheel at 2-0. My Top Hat is set at .070″.

This seems abnormal to me. From what I’ve read and seen peoples numbers posted, I should be able to fill to 2900 or so and do the same thing. I’ve seen pictures of the new valve and it looks like mine.

Maybe my valve is wonky? I’m paranoid about having something thats broken but not knowing it. What do you guys think?

I’ve got a ton of numbers to back stuff up if anyone wants to see.

2800 Psi fill.

at what pressure?

Thats what i thought. Just to throw it out there, I did a shot string and it averaged at 827 fps with JSB Exacts 16 grain. Is that normalish for a stock talon SS?

I cant see how it can hurt?

Just a related question. Is it ok if the valve stem sticks 1mm beyond the end of the top hat?

You’re correct, you should be getting more consistent strings and from 2700+psi fills

You have a problem that I’ve never heard of before. Almost sounds like you got a Talon hammer with a Condor Valve. Just guessing?

This sounds like a problem for Voltar to answer.

BTW is the gun older then ~9 months? There was a problem with air tanks functioning above 2700psi on the older Condors.

Its a stock Condor. Only thing I have done is play with the power wheel and the top hat. I’ve had the power wheel set lower, higher, and the tophat set from the factory .080 down to .066 and it still seems to do the same thing at higher psi.

From what I’ve read about other guns, you want the bell curve shooting – about 20-40 fps seems normal. Mine is easily over 100fps curve.

Really, I dont care that I fill to 1900 and get 15 good shots. I only care about getting the right velocity consistantly so the POI is the same. The only thing that pisses me off is that once in about 40 shots, it will “misfire” – you can hear the shot isnt as loud and the point of impact is about 2 inches low at 23 yards. I think I’ve read thats because there isnt enough pre-load from the power wheel? I just dont know why it doesnt do it more often….

Hey, Gabe, this may sound nuts but have you tried turning your PW down even more? I just got an 18″ barrel for my SS (thanks, Sharpshooter!), and I think I’ve got it dialed in just about perfect. TH is only .034″ and PW @ zero, CPL’s are averaging 945 fps, 30 shots only drops it to 2700 psi from a 3K psi fill. BUT, if I turn up the PW, velocity drops 100 fps instantly. My theory is that with the PW up at all, the TH is slamming into the valve body. Maybe something similar is happening with your Bird. Good luck.

Dave

Sounds like you should have gone with a talon or you might want to put a standard valve in the tank.

How old is the gun? Stock or Moded?
