Old moderator suck on tight
So after all the problems of getting the offset moderator. Then the scope mounts were wrong size I have now picked up another scope. 42mm objective lens. Good scope and will now have enough room to put new moderator on.
So I followed instructions in dismantling the gun. Got to the part where I need e spanner to take old one off and it is solid. It will not budge.
So I have put it back together and going to let the gunsmith do it.
I put it in a vice and I am putting a lot of pressure on it. Can’t do anymore as I think sumt is going to break.
Gutted.

I have a mate who has a heat gun so plan on trying that tomorrow hopefully. Pain in the arse. It just shouldn’t be that tight.
There was no black lube on the treads on mines when I removed it and that’s the cause of the high friction hold between the joint and threads.
IIRC mines move an 1/8th of a turn too but I gave it a bit more then that and it made a loud squeak before it loosened up. 😆

OK make sure the block in the rear is not turning as well. If you look in the video where Ed is taking it apart you see that he sandwich’s the breech block in the vise. Sometimes that can turn when you attempt to take the moderator off. WD40 won’t help, if worse comes to worse put a heat gun to the threads inside the moderator bolt. Use a heat gun not a torch. (In other words, no flame). I know a torch in the UK is a flashlight :butkick: but here it is fire!.
Yes. That’s what I am trying to remove. Wrench on there and appiing for its starting to turn the hole lot. Shroud and moderator. It’s all moved 1/8th of a revolution.
This is a standard moderator?
If so this is what it looks like off…the moderator and bolt are one piece.
I am doing exactly that. But when I am applying force to unscrew the shroud is moving with the moderator.
I’m stumped. Don’t know what else to do.
Make sure u remove the AT from the action like in the video above and use good vise jaw pads.
O Ed makes it look so easy …….. but it not ….. it’s freakin tight ….. 😆

When the moderator is tightened it may be hard for WD40 to penetrate the thread. I would put some steady force from a long wrench – without any dynamic movements. You should also clamp the gun firmly like in the video.
As of the moderator – the locking nut and the moderator is one and the same piece of the material. When you unscrew the locking nut – the whole moderator will be rotated.
Just had another go. Put in the vide. The 19mm spanner only really fits over just over half way. Do they have different sizes in Russia??
Anyway. I have applied a lot of force and each time the shroud is slightly moving along with the old moderator. 3 goes at it. Now the old moderator had moved about 1/8 of a turn. What should I do? Turn it back to original position? Or is it acctually undoing when the shroud is moving??

Yeah, the factory shroud is tightened really hard. There is a movie from Ed on how to unscrew it.
