Q:

Old vs new Matador regulators

Hi,

I noticed there is a new Matador regulator introduced in 2017. According to Huma, their regulator will fit the old version only:

(This model will fit until early 2017 models. Please check if your reg matches the picture here above. The new 2017 model regulator will be available soon)

Can someone shed some light on the differences? Can one use the same reg tester to handle both types?

Assuming that I have the old regulator and I fitted Huma reg – won’t the shooting chamber be bigger?

Thanks!

Thanks again.

Valve TP:
.22 = 5.2 mm
.25 = 5.8 mm

Valve seat:
22 = 5.5 mm
25 = 6.5mm

Forward breech TP:
22 = 5 mm
25 = 5.5mm

Keyser, would you be that kind and tell me what is the TP’s diameter size in 5.5 and 6.35? I am talking about the hole which is sealed by a brass ring.

Thank you. It’s good to have you in community.

No the only difference is the TP size .

Thanks. How about the difference between .22 and .25? Is there any difference in the regulator region? Bigger plenum in .25 or something like that?

Right. I would call the area in the green square the regulator housing

OK. Thanks.

So the only difference is in the part contained in a green frame, right? Rest is the same.

Yes it does increase the plenum size. They also fill slower than the OEM regulator. This can be adjusted but I have never seen the need to. I usually run the Huma air about 10 BAR lower than the factory. On my 22 Matador I run the regulator at 120 bar and it gives me 920 FPS with 18s . These regulators are the best way to get 34 grain power from your 25 long.

Ok, so it makes a shooting chamber bigger, doesn’t it?

The red square area is all that is replaced when upgrading the Huma . The internals are also removed from the OEM regulator (piston washers)

Thank you for such a great level of details.

So Huma reg replaces a red part or a green one?

Yes your Reg tester will still work because the area that seals the tube is still the same size

Here are the differences with the regulators. I can’t remember why Ed said he changed it. Huub has the measurements for the new regulator if you want to change out the factory one with a Huma-Air (Note the new one was damaged by accident by a customer)
