Q:

One Piece Bushing

Finally bit the bullet and bought the boring bar to make a one piece bushing.

Minimum hole is .540″ so I can do the .257 TJ barrel, .22, and .25 LW barrels. Can’t do the 12′ barrels.

Takes awhile to make it fit perfect. Fit perfect when test fitted on the lathe 5″ deep. Once I parted it and push it in it was to tight as it got closer to where it needed to be. A little 400 emory cloth and it fits perfect.

That’s really nice. Can’t wait to get that 1 piece bushing on my Condor. It will match nicely with the barrel guided 101 gram hammer Doug made me. My Condor reminds me of the TV show (6 million dollar man). Bit by bit, my condor is slowly being rebuilt (better, stronger, faster…).

I see… Like a bulbar eh? But then it seems short… Post the grouping Doug, hope it gets tighter.. I didn’t know AF does have barrel vibrations issues, probably for the modified power is even more prominent.

What advantage is there to the added difficulty maling this?

Yeah glue on the barrel would be a disaster, but I wouldn’t be bonding the barrel to the bushing.

I could bond it the same way we bond driveshafts to carbon tubes. Very slow turning in a lathe while the epoxy sets, or just use a pasty kneaded batch but thats making the job a lot harder.

Ill have to think about it more I guess. Not really looking forward to a job like that. 😉

Riff,

AZ does that to the Styers he sets up for field target. He JB Welds the barrel in place. Makes the rifle ultra accurate but it’s a total pita to change the barrel afterwards…

Ive been wondering if it would be worth bonding a bushing into the frame, and use the holes in the frame as access points to the barrel grubs.
It wouldn’t make changing a barrel very easy, but my old frame doesn’t change barrels anymore anyway.

The bonding itself would probably prove to be tricky, but I bet I could pull it off. I bet I could make the bushing out of carbon too, but that creates another completely different set of problems to work around.

You’re kidding right? 😕

The answer to your question is right above your post… 😉

Sorry for the question but new to condors ….
Whats the purpose of this ?

nitro,

It is to cure the wandering point of impact that we refer to as “Frame Flex”.

Welcome aboard, always good to see members from your part of the world here.

I don’t get it, what is this for Doug?

Beautiful! 😉

No. It would defeat the purpose. I guess I could machine out the center and leave .060″ so the bushings are connected.

My shroud doesn’t use the frame and is just as quiet or quieter then any
bodies.

Can it be vented? 😆

Nice Doug!

Good, now when I get my 1-10 twist barrel, and if it shoots well with the Hoch and the 420, you will be able to make me a one piece bushing for the 36 inch 1-14.
