Q:

Opinions on High end PCPs Daystate FX Cricket ect

I am about to pull the trigger on a .25 cal for hunting. I am down to the Daystate AirWolf, AirRanger, FX500 and Cricket I need knock down up to 100 yards on small game as well as capability to take medium size game on occasion Any opinions on these the cricket seems really manuverable in a wooded area except I only have a 3300 psi scuba tank so the cricket is out probably since it has a 4350 fill pressure…. I may have to turn my Mrod into a Bull Pup and use a loner gun like the daystate or FX for occasional hunt for medium game and paper punching..

You don’t really want to fill a Cricket much over about 220bar/3200 psi so I wouldn’t worry about that. It is real inefficient on air (So is a Matador) use on the higher fills. My standard Cricket in 22 is only 27″ long and It is my favorite gun maneuvering wise for hunting and for a comfortable feel (about 33 FPE). There are some standard Matador R3s available in .25 that are about 29″ long (about 50 FPE). I have one of those too and it is a good hunting gun as well. I have a Daystate Air Ranger .25 (50 FPE version) and like the Wolf they are too big for hunting IMO. I use it from a bench rest to pick off sparrows in a tree about 100 yards away. The FX500 is big and very long.

I bought the Marauder bullpup kit from R&L Airgun and Randy has ten (I think they are backordered after that) of them shipping today I think (and one is mine). It is still a pretty heavy gun but I am excited about shortening the length so much.

AOA’s Rep has improved a lot in the last couple of years. I guess they had to pay attention. If you buy for P. Air. (Good bunch of folks, they send the fx guns to AOA for repair.
Just saying. AOA is the ONLY factory authorized repair center in the US. Thanks a lot FX. DAystate is the same. 🙁 No competition, = High prices and a devil may care attitude form the dealer. FX and Daystate should know better than having one dealer control the market in a country the size of the USA.

All of those guns have good reputations, with the periodic problems. I’m happy with the FX Royale 500, which is good, because customer support is so bad in the USA, it will likely cause the company to lose market share. Whatever you get, buy it from a US dealer that will replace or fix any issues. Airguns of AZ has a bad reputation, according to many; although I had no trouble. Precision Airguns might be a better dealer.

I’ve put at least 2,000 pellets through the Royale and hammered a lot of rodents from squirrel to groundhog. With a regulator set up for JSB .25 cal., 25 grains, you can pop about 80 shots per fill into a nickel-sized target at 50 yds. I use a hand pump, so your tank setup will be fine. Downside: it’s a long gun. If you’re tall and reasonably fit, not a problem. Most hunting here is post and wait. For target shooting-no issue. It’s very quiet, but like any pellet gun shooting diabolo-style pellets, accuracy will suffer once you pass about the 70-90 yd mark.
