Q:

Optimal pellet speed?

Hello, what is the optimal pellet speed for the:

.177 JSB 10,34 grain

.22 JSB 15,89 grain

.22 JSB 18,13 grain

I have heard many times that 285 mps is the optimal speed wich is around 935 fps. Is this the case for all the above pellets?

My Cricket 177 compact likes JSB 10,34 grain at 920-930 fps.

.22 JSB 15,89 grain @ 880-920 fps.

.22 JSB 18,13 grain @ 880-940 fps

OK, thank you guys, some more .177 info would be More than welcome

I don’t shoot .177, maybe SEcoda will step in for that one

15.89 – 815-820
18.1 – 890-905

In my .22s my 18gr JSBs seem to shoot best around 880 to 890 fps.

My opinion is that Diablo style pellets generally work best in the 880-920fps range. Some pellet/barrel/atmosphere combinations will work well at higher speeds, but that velocity range is just below the transonic zone and Diablo pellets don’t deal well with the turbulence from going transonic.

In my experience it really depends upon the barrel. Some don’t like JSB’s at all in any velocities
