Q:

Ordering SS – Tips Please

I intend to order an SS from Pyramyd over the next couple of days and would sincerely appreciate any tips you “old hands” might have about what other items I should include in the order and any “break-in” steps appropriate to new rifles. I am new to PCP air gunning, so all advice beginning at ground zero will be most helpful. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Gunnerjacky you must have posted in the wrong thread or you did not read the other posts. He is not looking for a budget airgun but wanting help with a Talon ss and gear to go with it.

The best choice among the budget is the Daisy 880. It produces about 7.5 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. Its reasonably accurate with lead pellets (say 1-1.5 inch groups at 20-25 yards) if you do your part and use a pellet if likes. And its actually a bit below your price-point since Walmart carries it for around $45.

Honestly, for now, just shoot the hell out it. Get a feel for the rifle before you go modding it. Too many times I jumped into a project buying parts and stuff, only to realize later I would have been fine w/stock for a while- or completely changing the build altogether. The ONLY thing I’ll suggest from the get-go is a WOKGard15. Stiffens up the frame a bit (yes, it looks good too!!) and lets face it, unless you’re building a beat-around gun, or a truck gun, you’re really going to want a more comfortable grip. Other than that, I’ll go back to my opening statement- SHOOT THE HELL OUT OF IT FIRST!! :8: :2cents:

If you do get a WOKGard15, I’ve got a Hogue grip for sale!! Check the for sale page! :biggrinn:

Yeah! What he said!!!!!!

If you plan to do any mods down the road, I recommend the Wokgard 15 from WalkonKing on these forums. Upgrading from the terrible stock grip was the best thing I’ve done on my AF rifles.

Stock grip is not a problem for me – the heavy trigger is, however. Heavy trigger pull is the only problem I have with my Talon SS – even the rifle’s gauge reads spot-on with my CF tank gauge. Might try a TT hammer w/ slap mod later. After reading another thread I started on oiling pellets and no additional barrel maintenance required (per DVD enclosed with rifle), seems I need to rethink cleaning the barrel now after several hundred shots.

Great forum that’s full of helpful, experienced shooters who are very willing to share their knowledge. Thanks very much, guys!

18.1 JSB’s

Thank you for the feedback. I plan to order tomorrow – what pellet types/wt.s should I get to try out and include with the rifle order (to save shipping)?

I don’t see a problem if it’s a head shot, with the Talon it’s not a problem at 40-50 feet.

I would go for the standard tank instead you’ll be able to tune it down to make it a micro. This way you can change to a higher power if you need to later. With the micro you can’t make it into a standard one, well it won’t be easy or cheep to do anyway.

To make micro meter set the standard tank top hat clearance between 1-1.5mm = .04″-.06″.

.22 cal. My main interest is Starling, House Sparrow, etc. eradication (impossible task), so I’m wondering if a micro-meter tank produces sufficient velocity to humanely kill a pigeon, Starling, etc. within 40-50 feet?

What caliber? I’d say buy pellets JSB or the H&N. My wife just bought me a talon ss from pyramyd mine came with a full charged bottle. So you will get some practice in.
