overbore spring retainer…
well, fellas, it seems that ive got another small problem. ive no means of getting the valve off the tank, and i aint taking a chance on decimating another bottle. i may have bored out the spring retainer a hair too wide during polishing, as the spring seems to wanna tip to one side, and i dont trust the delrin seal alone to hold it straight. is there any solution that you guys know of short of opening the bottle, perhaps a sized washer, or flange bearing? the less obstructive to the air flow, the better(duh). if there is no immediate solution, ill probably use the cygnus x springless idea, has anyone heard from him lately? 😕

i run high fill pressures anyways, does the heavy hammer have as much bearing on the dump pressure vs spring preload?

that magic pressure will vary with the spring pre-load on the hammer. as it gets closer to tank pressure then yes you will get a tank dump..

If I’m right u just take the spring out . But it works best with 3000 fill because once. The pressure gets to low it will tank dump don’t know when that pressure is u will have to test and see. But some one will correct me if in wrong.
just remove the spring. air pressure inside the tank will hold the valve shut. there’s a link here somewhere, but, i’m too lazy to look it up. that and an o-ring behind the tophat, and you’ve got as close to a reg. as you’re gonna get, without actually having one.

Use a fatter spring
i went with the no spring deal, it works just fine. although i did keep the retainer, so the air passage is smooth and there is less turbulance in the transition area between the tank and valve. also, by removing the spring, you can lower the hammer spring tension thereby lessening the vibration and jarring , which will improve accuracy. as cygnus also pointed out, it makes the power wheel more useful also.

a heavier hammer will effect what pressure your tank will dump at, if your spring pressure is sufficeintly high. i’ve shot my tank down to 1800 psi. and it didn’t dump. i have a 95 gram hammer and my spring preload is set at 4 on the slide gauge.
