Q:

Parallax focus vs range vs power question

Ok, some scopes with parallax side focus only go down to 50 or even 100 yards. Question…at the lower magnifications say 6x or even 4x will that still be an issue if target is closer than 50yds?

I am looking at a 6-24 with side focus that only goes to 50yds.

Thanks

Thanks guys.

Was looking at a 6-24 x 40 50yd focus and a Vortex 2.5-10 x 32 35yd min focus.

You can still use a scope outside of its optimum range but results can vary dramatically. The lower the power and the smaller the objective the more usable they will normally be. Though if your going to buy a new scope my advice would be by the one most suitable for your intend use. You will be kicking your self if you shell out the cash only to work out the scope does not perform as you require.

My scope has a minimum parallax of 25m or so. It is 4,5-30 and on minimum magnification aka 4,5x I can get as close as 15-12m with a clear picture, I am however not sure how the parallax error works with this, I am pretty sure I moved my head around and the reticle was everywhere so the parallax error is big since it is set at 25m, you would have to put you head at the exact same spot every time.

It is however possible to adjust the minimum parallax on all scopes. This also anjusts the maximum parallax so do not adjust too much, I tried it on my scope and could go as far as a clear image at 10m on 30x but then my maximum parallax aka the infinity mark was like 50m and everything beyond was a blur…

I put it back to normal so it is now 25m again

Hope this helps 🙂
