Part II to Dragonslayer power problem (crony test)
I tested the crony with some .177 co2 to make sure it was working properly and it was, both before and after my dragon test.
first group was a five shot group only because I thought something might be wrong with crony because of the extremely low #’s….

Next group I tried a lower start pressure and I received some good numbers from the start (2500 start pressure)

At this point I though I discovered the sweet spot @ 2500. I decided to lower the start pressure to 2200 for the next group.

At this point I was getting a little bewildered, so I went back to the best fill pressure of the day 2500 psi to try some penetration tests on a 2×8 at point blank range
578 went through (barely)
236 (same depth as first shot) Is that enough fps to penetrate through the 2×8??? if not, than there is surely a crony issue.
309 (went through barely)
724 (now the report of this shot was very, very loud. Not only did it pass through the 2×8, it went 1/4″ into the 2×8 behind that one, so I don’t doubt that this could be an actual fps, or not, what do you think)
Please submit your appreciated advice. Do those occasional low velocity shots point towards the valve not opening all the way? Is this rifle even capable of a 731 fps shot with .495 round ball?? S.O.S. —sending!

The crony numbers that were high barely made it through the 2×8 (ball was hanging out the back) and the crony numbers that were low also penetrated the same depth (barely out the back), so it may in fact be too much muzzle blast acting upon the crony.
The only way to know is to test again from a further distance away from crony.l As aforementioned, my weaker co2 test gun did well proving the crony is in fine working condition.
You know that I am hoping it is a crony issue…this way I would avoid having to send this dragon back to be rescaled.

Base on what I have read somewhere, you have to be 2 to 3 foot away from the Chrony, if you’re too close, that explained it.
Yes, I was kind of close to the crony as the space I was set up to do indoor crony testing was limited. Before I send it back, I want to do one more test by removing a stationary bench in the room to allow my muzzle to drop back another 8 inches from the box. I will post results. Thanks Jerry.
Seems to me that you might be getting both bad chrony readings and have a gun problem. If you are too close to the chrony, the muzzle blast can give you false low readings, this would explain a reading of 278 still penetrating the board as much as the 578 the shot before.
The first string at 2500 is consistent with what I recal my gun doing. About 7-8 shots in the low 600s.
I’ve never heard the really loud report and certainly not seen vastly more powerful shots just happen randomly, this indicates a problem to me and a good reason to take advantage of the warranty.
I don’t know much about Chrony, but 1 thing I want to know if you ever check or look at the battery yet? it may be low and reporting error?
I do see similar error on mine but only happened once in while, I can live with it :).
Did anyone have test the “CED M2 Chronograph” before? This suppose to be the best Chrony, but I did not see any review of feedback for this Chrony, so I have no idea how good it is.

Walt, I have to admit, having your attention on this is most appreciated as I respect your vast knowledge of pcp’s There are some outstanding individuals on this forum that make my new found love for this hobby that much more rewarding!
However, on this one, I feel like a student standing before a master who has been kind enough to throw the keys to his vast toolbox at the student’s humble feet, but the student is “hog tied” and has no means to bend over and pick those golden keys up. 🙁
If this thing was out of warranty, I’d have it in pieces already…but alas it is not, and it must be sent back…wouldn’t you agree (from the perspective of my still wet shoes, of course)?

I just did a penetration test on a p.t. 2×8 @ 16 yards. two separate fills one 2500 psi sp the other 2800 psi sp. I shot eight .495 round balls on each fill.
The shots varied in penetration depth. Only one of the 16 made it all the way through the 2×8. Most of the others varied from 1/4″ to 3/4″ depth. Based on this latest test and all the other evidence, I think I will save ammo and not do another crony test and package this one up and send it back to the factory for repair. Thanks.
