Pellet impact sound
I’ve been shooting Predator Polymags (16g) at birds in my backyard. My talon SS is pretty quiet, but the impact of the pellet hitting the pigeons are fairly loud. Any suggestions as to a better pellet to use that would have a “quieter” impact? How does the size, shape, and weight of the pellet affect the impact sound?

Control what you can control. You have influence on the gun but not the impact. Enjoy your work.
I’m sure a twelve step program can help you through this but if not:
Tell your neighbors that you are nailing stuff with a pnuematic hammer if they ask. This explains the noise. And then warn them that dead birds in their yards may be carriers of Bird Flu. Do this on separate occasions as your neighbors don’t need to put two and two together and know you as the killer that we know you are.

ive shot pigeons before and i used a CP and rws domed pellets and i have always heared the sweet sound of “twak”
I used to shoot jsb exacts at pigeons but they would often fly off, then die. Cant think of a better pellet for pigeon then the jsb predator.
I love the sound of a squirrel hit right in the noggin! Sounds just like a walnut being cracked open. Or the loud thump it makes when you hit one in the chest area.
Yeah, Ive killed a pigeon with it at 10 yards before. No scope either….probably a lucky shot, but it was dead. I used the pellet “shell” to kill it. It is the exact same gun as the viper express except for the stock. the only really bad thing about the gun is there is no way to silence it w/ shooting the shells.
does that thing work at all? Could it take sparrows out to 10yds? Someone on another forum has taken a couple crows with a viper express. Gamo uses pretty much the same exact internals for all of their guns though. thanks

You might want to get a cheap Walmart special in case you get a visit and they want to know what you are shooting…..
actually, the backyard is totally different now. there is a bunch of plants, grass, etc. the biggest issue is the wash behind my house that echoes like crazy when the pellet hits a pigeon.
although the neighbors next door to me were bitch’n about the pigeon problem last night. they had no clue the folks down behind the wash were feed’n the pigeons and causing this problem we have. now i’m their hero when i kill dem pigeons!!! 🙂
Maybe you should plant some bushes in you backyard to absorb some of the sound. From some of the pics that you have posted, it appears that there isn’t much vegetation to soak up the sound. Just a thought.
How about “building a dog house” (wink, wink) everytime you shoot the gun, just drive a few nails into a board and if the neighbors ask…

If they work in your gun, you might try CP’s or JSB Exacts. Kodiaks are good, too, but they’re overkill on birds. The Preds are noisy because they’re basically a hollow point, a domed pellet will be quieter. Pointed would probably be even quieter, but they suck for accuracy. You might check your velocity, too. Depending on range, 700 fps is just as effective as 900, and everything is quieter. Hope that helps.

Yeah, I do love it, but my neighbors across the wash from me are hearing it. It makes a HUGE echo in the wash that is behind my house when I hit a pigeon.
Are you KIDDING THAT IS THE SWEET SOUND OF WHAT WE CALL “TWACK” You shall come to love it….. lol

We went out to a dairy this past weekend and shot a few pigeons, i tell you what, they can take a shot right through the chest and fly for a bit before they die. Got to go for the head shot if you want drop dead drop.
