Pellet question
What would be the best pellet choice for our 4h indoor competitions? I’m guessing a wad cutter but which one? thanks!

The Big Guy’s got it right, again. For a few extra bucks, a tin of Meisters is good insurance. Kept to reasonable speeds, I’ve yet to have a gun that didn’t shoot them well.

For a 4H program…. Beeman Coated Wadcutters. Tin of 500 is $2.99 at PA before the 4 for 3 deal. That’s half a penny a shot. Fine at 5m okay at 10m. Next I’d say the Gamo wads. Double the cost but still damn cheap and I have found them to be pretty reliable up to 10m.
EDIT –
Yikes those cheapo Beeman Wads are almost the same price as the Gamo Match Wads now. If you go cheap the Gamo are def better. DO NOT but the cheapo Beeman HP’s. Or… since I have a bunch maybe you should… from me… 8)

My opinion is that unless you have some world class shooters in your group, you’ll likely not notice a difference in Crosman Wadcutters and a premium pellet.
If it were me, I’d also try some of the “Peak” pellets. They are Chinese, but very well may do good for cheap shooting at close range.
We have 4 guns for the group to use, so it will have to be one pellet for all, are the crosman wadcutters like the ones you buy at walmart or do they make a more precise one? I have some of the wal mart ones and they dont fit tight in my barrel like the CP’s do..
What kind of pellet for a particular gun is the easiest question of all to answer because the answer will always be the same….
Whatever pellet shoots best in YOUR gun.
…and this is not a smart assed answer, either. I’ve had guns of the same caliber and model that prefer vastly different pellets. While you are correct in that for such shooting, you’ll want a wadcutter, but which one depends on your gun. Depending on how competitive/precise/anal you want to be about it, you may need to try many different pellets.
For informal indoor plinking, you very well may do fine with RWS Hobby pellets or the Crosman wadcutters. If you are looking to squeeze out the last bit of accuracy out of your gun, you’ll have to experiment.
