On my .22 Std with 15.9s going 880fps the air consumption along with shot signature decreased when I adjusted my main valve spring preload to one turn. The consistancy also increased and I have a very nice 6-8 ES now.
Like you Jan I could not get it higher than 890’s. As I turn in the HST it reaches a point of 890’s and starts to go down in speed and starts to consume a lot of air.
I would think you would need to adjust the reg to about 130-135bar to get it up there.

tommorow I tested 270mps (886-889fps) I had filled cricket to 215bar. I shooted to 4 mags 56 shots and manometer shown right 120bar. It is 1,69bar/shot. It’s a bit much. I appreciate to 1,5bar/shot
How can I improve it ? Little bit increase or reduce reg pressure ? 😳 – For 886-889fps

I think it is more of a tuning, tinkering, can I get a bit more from this thing that gets ya when you have one of these fine pieces of equipment or even a junker. 😛

Hi guys. Being a newbie am loath to post but..being a worshiper at the shrine of Tedsholdover I feel a short burst is needed. Specifically the right pellet choice. JSB 15.9 ‘s love to fly and show amazing accuracy around the 900fps figure. Surely if the speed versus FPE versus accuracy are the dominant factors then the 15.9’s at around that figure give optimum results. Does it really matter whether there is one or two more FPE on target so long as it is hit. Mister Ted has done so much research over time , lots of different Pcp’s, lots of different pellet set ups all rationalised in , more or less, controlled conditions. Therefore it would seem puerile to go over the same ground again and again. After all more time spent shooting, whether hunting or target , is what the gun is for. Or have I missed the point and more fun is derived by “tuning”?
Finally I have to thank you all for the standard and knowledge shown within these many posts which in spite of the foregoing I avidly consume.
I tuned my .22 Cricket, using 21gr Barracudas, and the best I can get, at about 130 BAR, is right at 875 fps. I turned the regulator 1/4 turn CCW to bump up the BAR setting a bit, but to exceed that upper 880+ you would also need to adjust/replace the valve stem spring, drill out transfer ports, diddle with the HST, etc. Not sure it’s worth it. I don’t believe your accuracy will improve, and the knock-down power is not going to be increased by more than a few fpe…
Ernest posted that he got a .22 up to 37 fpe, but he had to do some serious tuning to get there. If you want performance above the 30+ fpe the .22 factory settings provide, you might consider getting a .25, or have Earnest convert your .22 to a .25 caliber. That’s do-able for about $350 which is cheaper than selling/buying a new gun. The .25 will give you a huge increase in fpe, but not certain the fps will/should increase all that much.
There are diminishing returns from power tuning a pcp to it’s max potential. It won’t necessarily produce faster speeds or higher fpe…in fact, they may go down. It’s a delicate, and sometimes unpredictable, art.

I know each gun is different but Allen Z tuned my Rapid for the 18.1 JSB. I told him I was looking to stack pellets at 50 yards. Allen Z told me that the 18.1 JSB would be most accurate from 815 FPS to 880 FPS depending on several factors. My rapid shoots 850 FPS and it is a tack driver. I think sometimes our powder burner alter-egos come out at we begin to obsess about FPS. Really from 815 to 880 is only 4 foot pounds (give or take). I hold the opinion that airheads need to find the gun’s sweet spot in the following order: accuracy, air consumption, noise (for me this is important) and last is FPS. I personally have found the mid 800s is just right for the JSB 18.1

Yes, with some internal adjustments I think it can be done. But of course you will loose some shot count.

My original receiver was damaged from shipping this is the serial # 22132296 before it was replace with a new one from Ernest. Some Cricket owners have clamed that there’s another sweet spot for the 18g at 920-930 fps. I believe it depends on the gun/barrel not all will. But so far I like the accuracy and shot count I’m getting at 880 fps.
I would rather go up to a 25 cal @ 920 fps, Kings are killer accurate with the FPE to boot !

Yes, Greg probably we have very very similar set our cricket regulators and HST 🙂 What is your serial nr. my is 000752. I do not know if I want to go higher I want only know if increased speed bring accuracy improvement. 😆

I fill to 210 bar and ending at 130 bar after 4 mags or 56 shots. Shooting JSB 18g @ an average of 880 fps with an efficiency rating of 1.42 bar/shot. With my stock HST at about flush with the receiver body. I never took the reg out of my gun yet to check but I think it’s set to 120-125 like yours.

I have no regulator tester but I estimate him 120-123bar. Yesterday was sunny and hot weather and I tried max speed of cricket. Maximal speed what I have reached was 272mps (892fps) when I go higher speed decreased. BTW during shooting with 886fps it has quite high air consumption – 14shots 25bar.
Only with speed between 876-880fps is possible reach consumption 20bar per 14 shots.
You guys what is yours air consumption for 14 shots and what power ? 🙂
