Pellet Talk

All this talk about pellets. Got me wondering. What some recomendations are.

I am looking at getting some Beeman Trophies or some Exact Express in .22. How are the Exact Express in the Talon?

I tried a new pellet not long ago, the RWS Superdomes. Not sure if i like them, they would group pretty good one minute, then get to many fliers the next. It seems nobody really cares for ‘Pointed’ pellets for the most part, but I must say I’ve had really good luck with Crosman “Hunting/Field” pellets, and that goes for my SS and my custom 2250. They’re kinda in between pointed and ‘conical’ in head shape. I consistantly group inside a nickle size circle at 25 yrds with them, which is all my backyard allows, and about the same performance as CP’s in my gun(s). I’ve read on other forums where others were pretty happy with this pellet as well.

I drove to Mac1 Tim’s shop Wed and picked up a box of Kodiaks, his sale has started, which most of you know. Didn’t have any JSB exacts (.22) he says he’ll have them next week. To bad, or I would have picked up those as well.

Those RWSs in .22 have a double thick skirt ( think for dual caliber ) and their OK close ,hobbys weren’t double skirted, but too light for distances

The RWS Meisterkugeln and Superdome always did great in my .177 RWS 48.

Not sure what they are like in .22

My TSS shoots CPHP .22s @ 35 yards w/alittle wind about the same as that tuned Big Cat @ 35 feet.
After I get a pump my groups might get smaller ?
I hate getting my scuba tank filled around # 2000, they look at you like your wasting their time.

The CP domed in the box are simply domed, no hollow point.

So what’s the difference between Crosman Premier domed hollow points that come in the 500 piece tins, and the Crosman Premier domed solid pellets that come 625 pieces in a cardboard box? I have been shooting the domed hollow points with good accuracy and terminal performance. The pellets that come packed in a box seem to be more expensive.

I to tried the Gamo hunters and found them to be very accurate in a stock TSS setup.

I’ve also noticed changing barrels, valves has a impact on what pellets a rig may prefer. Certainly heavier pellets like to be shot faster. In other words if you can get a pellet shooting around 750-1000fps, thats going to be an optimum testing velocity. Thats taking into account that the barrel and pellet like each other. In a stock TSS icouldn’t get Eun Jins to group at all. When i got them up to and beyound 800fps then they grouped well.

Between the CP and the JSB light, CP were far better for me. The JSB quality in the lights was poor. Skirts are too light and easily damaged yielded occasional flyers etc. I call em CP wantabe. That said when I made a change to my rig the CP sort of gave me fits where they use to be great so I’ll be moving toward my older set up to use the CPs when in the mood. They are usually a good pellet for lighter shooting.

Field target I have had good luck with, good choice in that weight range and consistent for me.

Tried a lot of pointed pellets over time and none of them were much good at any range in any of my rigs or set ups. I have many tins only partly used or not opened and lots of brands,,, haha Hey ya got to try stuff,, right??

Dono if I have any trophy’s or not. If I do I’ve forgotten how they shot.

Had some good luck with Gamo hunters, cheap but pretty consistent,, but haven’t shot many lately.
As I change set ups I’ll go through 5 shots of 5 different pellets or more just to see what is working and what may not work as well. A little entertainment. Sort of surprised how a given set up may change the preferred/better pellet.

As I posted in another thread, I’ve been shooting the Beeman Bearcubs in my stock SS and they are working great at short range, up to 50 yards. About the same velocity and accuracy as CPs. They have a smaller sleeve and will easily fit in the barrel backwards.

All in all… I’d say it is the Beeman line of pellets that provide the best accuracy in both of my Condors.

Field target specials work great in my talon and AA410 very accurate. The seem to be about the same as CP’s for me. So I have been shooting CP’s.

Exacts shoot well in my rig. I haven’t heard anything on the trophies. Another i’d like to hear about is the field target specials or FTS.
