Ping Pong Ball Airgun
I was watching the boob tube last night and on Mythbusters they were investigating whether a ping pong ball could be propelled fast enough to be lethal. They built a “PCP” airgun for the experiment.
It had a twenty foot barrel. By sealing the barrel with packing tape and pulling a vacuum in the barrel and suddenly opening the valve on a tank with 500 PSI air, they propelled the ping pong ball out of the barrel at over 1600 FPS! They “shot” a pork shoulder with it at about a foot from the muzzle and determined that though it would cause serious injury, it would not likely be lethal.

They get a LOT wrong. I remember a show where they investagated the “MYTH” of the Robin Hood arrow. Where one arrow was shot thru the other in competition. They conxluded that it was a myth, and impossible.
Having owned an archery shop for many years, I can tell you, It happens. And OFTEN! So much so, that in competitions where 5 arrows are shot at a target, the targets have 5 seperate bulls. Other wise, the arrows knock each other out of the group.
Not to mention, at todays prices of arrow’s, it gets expensive reall fast! 😆
I always take their show with a HUGE grain of salt. 😉

All I have to say to that mythbusters episode is motherfuckin’ Byron Ferguson! Seeing some of his shots with a traditional long bow, not that high tech, compound, pussy shit,(no offense to compund shooters, I’m just venting) made me want to learn archery. His Asprin shot is legendary. Plus he stacks an arrow after a few shots with the nock and all. Damn. I gotta get out there shoot…..
Howard Hill was a bad motherfucker too……… That’s it! I’m dusting off the bow tonite. 😈
