Please explain fill pressure to me
I have always filled and started shooting with my gun at 3K. I noticed today that at a 2600 start I am getting much more velocity?? Thanks. Bill

Let me explain more. I usually start a hair over 3k with PW at 6/11. A fill of 2600 with PW of 4/11. Yields way more shots and actually MORE velocity?? Thanks. Bill

The pressure in your tank is trying to keep the valve closed. The hammer is trying to push it open. The lower the pressure, the easier it is to open thus, the more air that is released. The more air released, the higher the velocity.
The beauty of an AF rifle is you can easily tune it for velocity and/or shot count. However, you really really really need a chrony (and a tin of pellet) to maximize the potential of the gun.
And yes, 2600psi is a good place to start and a PW setting of 4 is good depending on what model and caliber the gun is and equally important is the gap under the top hat.
Of all the AF guns I’ve tuned, no two had the same setup. (I.e. top hat gap, preload and fill pressure)
With a little research on this forum, you can find a ton of info about tuning your gun. This is where I learned.
