Q:

[please help]someting wrong with my air-tank

hey everyone, i’m from HongKong, we bought a gas tank（DOT-3AL3000_FK0017833_TC-3ALM207CLIFFDIV03 / 09 WC .5L T.66KG） in 2009 in HongKong and it is not used since June 2013 (meter reads 2300psi).This October we start to use it again. However, when we tried to connect it with the equipment we noticed a slight gas leakage next to the red mark on the valve(as can be seen from attache pictures). Once the gas tank is removed the leakage stops. Our conclusion is that once we connect the gas tank the valve starts to leak.

i would be very grateful if your can answer the following questions:

1. Did the manufacture use thread sealant when assembling the valve?
2. If the leakage happens due to the valve, can I use a spanner to tighten it up?
3. If it is because of the o-rings, which type of o-rings shall I buy to replace it, please give us details of it.
4. How can I empty the gas tank safely?

Mine was not holding air. It was leaking down very slowly. When I took it apart, the o-ring came out in 3pieces and was rock hard. Drain your tank fully (like Gene described) and pull it apart. You will probably find the same thing.

If you have a screw-on fill adapter, you can drop a penny (small coin) into it and screw it on, slowly, until you hear a slow leak – then just set it aside and let it drain out. I’d go ahead and try to tighten it (after draining) if you have, or can make, a spanner that fits well.
