Q:

Please share experience with machined metal breeches?

I was unable to find any info about breeches via search…
Does anyone have experience with machined metal breeches that they’d be willing to share?
The claimed benefits of better consistency, somewhat quieter and some more power with more durability sound attractive.

Thought the metal breech might be worthwhile if consistency, power and noise were improved.

What’s wrong with the stock breech?

Thanks for your feedback.
I’d be using it on a 25 cal TalonP with a *******no preload, stock spring if that makes any difference.

My .308 was like that. I machined a .070″ cup and then machined a piece of Delrin that I pressed in. Then I machined the hole and the o ring grooves in it. Worked fine but was a lot of work.

So now I use a aluminum one because there is no load on it.

Doug,

As you and I have discussed before, I had one. It was to be used on the AirArcher due to hard cocking with the heavy spring.

It was a disaster, it simply would bind. The maker turned it down and put a white derlin like plastic on the outside to make it slicker, it did not help.

Perhaps is you had a center of plastic, with a metal sleeve with another plastic outer surface it would work.

They do work but are harder on your barrel when cocking. Nothing works as good as Delrin does for ease of cocking and strength.

The problems start when you pre load the hammer spring or run heavier hammer springs. Starts rubbing the barrel from the added resistance when cocking

I use a Delrin breech on my .257 and it shoots 74 gr at 1100 fps.

The only way around it is like this. Gun cocks with hammer and breech is just opened and closed to load.

I have a few in my bits box I have tried over the years but always gone back to plastic. For me the stock plastic ones tend to be quieter and just feel like the gun responds faster to a trigger pull. But saying that I may just be imagining it 😆 Metal does work well on big bore guns though where the breach wall has to be much thinner.
