Q:

Posted this on the Yellow about using 17 in barrels

Well I had my 24″ .22 LW barrel chopped down to 17″ as I already have a 24″ .25 barrel for when I need to shoot at extended distances but I decided I wanted a shorter configuration for shooting less than a hundred yards.

So using some parts I had kicking around I replaced the stock forearm, added a couple of 20mm rails, and a shorter scope as opposed to my larger 10-40 scope.

The result was a very short airgun 36″ with the main tank and 29″ without the tank. Chrony results with 18.1 grain JSB’s is in the 980s and in the 960s with 25.4 grain JSB pellets so I can make 38 to 53 ft lbs of energy. The upgraded main airtank at 858cc as opposed to 490cc provides over 50 shots and is pretty consistant and as well I tuned it to fill at 2500 psi to maximize my scuba fills.

So as usual the Prairie winds did not cooperate so I was only able to do 25 yard tests I did see a HUGE inprovement in how the 25.4 grain pellets bucked the wind as opposed to the little 18.1 grain pellets.

I as well wanted to have something with less power for shortrange fun plinking so I simply screwed my CO2 adapter to a 88 gram CO2 tank and adapted an old CAR15 paintball stock to fit. As I upgraded the 11mm rails to 20mm rails I also have ordered quick detactable scopemounts so I can quickly swap out optics to match the .25 setup, 17 inch HPA, or 17 inch CO2 configs.

Yeah one of the few things a guy in life wants a little shorter. 😀

I love the 17″ .25 barrel in my rifle. Its a Walt barrel, and it loves just about any pellet but shines with the JSB Kings.

Being able to just get out of the car with it, makes the shorter config worth it.

Thanks I even like this more than my .25 config.

That’s a sweet set up there Randy! 😉 😀

I hear ya brother.

I love my 16″ barrel and gives me exactly what I wanted in the Talon and shroud department.
