Q:

Power adujster gone crazy?

Last Friday I have finally received my new Condor (GP SSS to be more exact, but I believe they are identical except for the name and the logos) so I spent a few days playing around with it. Unfortunately, it seems to behave very strangely.

I have unpacked it, filled, set to minimum power and tried a few shots (using JSB Exact, Exact Heavy and Monster pellets). On minimum power, filled to 200 bar, I was getting over 340m/sec (1115 fps) even with the heaviest Monsters and the power adjuster had no effect. I tried to lower the filling pressure (to about 150 bar), which brought the speed down, but not too much and the adjuster still had no visible effect. I fired like 300 shots just to allow the rifle to “settle down”, but no change.

So I read a lot about the TH settings on the forum, managed to get the proper allen wrench and started to experiment with the TH. As it came from the factor, it was reaching too far out towards the barrel, so I brought it back a bit. The speed was reduced considerably (down to under 300 m/sec or 985 fps) and the adjuster finally started to work. Well, kind of, because the higher the adjuster setting, the *lower* the speed. Plus the adjustment is nowhere close to linear, but I guess that could be normal. Lowering the filling pressure does not seem to make any difference – speed is lower, but the inverse operation of the adjuster persists.

I can see the adjuster compressing the spring thru the window of the power indicator as I operate the adjuster, cocking requires considerably more power at max power setting, so I would say the mechanism of the adjuster is working properly. Still, it does not do what it is expected to do. Any ideas?

P.S. thanks for a great forum with a lot of info. I hope I will be able to contribute some usable stuff sometime in the future as well.

Get some divers silicone. Lower the fill to 2500 Psi., T.H. to .060, P.W. right in the middle of its range.

The PW really is just a hammer spring compressor. If you compress it to much it will decrease the ability of the spring to expand and will decrease force it pushes the hammer and decrease your velocity.

It is all about getting the correct “balance” between the hammer spring and the valve spring. Once you get it where you want it do not touch it again.

In the talon you can get some adjustment in velocity. But in the Condor not so much.

The filling pressure is about 2800 psi (200 bar), my top hat setting is about 0,06″. I was under the impression that the range of the adjuster is from about 16J (12 ftlbs) to 80J (60 ftlbs?).

I do have a chrony so the speeds in my original post are the actual speeds metered. I have tried a few consistency tests today and the speed really varies much more than I am willing to accept, so I guess my TH setting is completely wrong.

The speeds are in m/sec ( multiply by 3 to get fps). I shot 50 shots with JSB Exact Heavy and 25 shots with JSB Jumbo Monster.

Not real sure what is going on with your gun power wheel for one usually doesn’t do a whole lot it does change your fps some but not as much as one would think it should, with that said what is your top hat set at? what pressures PSI are you filling your tank to and when do you stop shooting? what pressure is it at when you stop I should say, could be something else but need to know top hat setting you have set it to for starters. And a chronograph would be a must starting out I tried to set my Condor up when I first got it but there is no real way to do that without a chrony to know what speeds you are going and what changes you make to the gun will show up on the chrony and tell you allot more information.
