Q:

power or consistency/accuracy?

power or consistency this is the question?

i have a gunpower stealth .22 under 12flb. i had it sitting just under 12flb about 11.5flb which was great as i could shoot quiet far without having to worry about lots of hold over/under but suffered very bad consistency which affected my accuracy too.
now after a bit of detuning the gun sits a about 9.1flb, well under 12flb which isn’t too good for distance shots due to hold under but so good for consistency and accuracy is very good now too.

when it was sitting at 11.5flb the fps varies from about 580 down to about 500 cronoed, (flb pressures going up and down)
but when it is sitting at 9.1 the fps bairly varies above 20 fps (flb pressures stay about the same)

so what should i do more power with less accuracy/consistency and less hold over?
or less power with more accuracy/consistency but more hold over?

can anyone help?

thanks

all i can say is it must suck to live in uk with its power limits, hell i consider my r1 with 17fpe low powered. why did uk come out with a power limit any ways, what is the story?

hi to answer your question, have you seen who our prime minister is? he is a twat! that is why and the fact that there are a bunch of f##king idiots out there in the u.k that think it is funny to shoot cats, dogs and even people with there air rifles!
so the P.M’s idea of safe shooting is put a cap of 12flb limit on all air rifles, but i can tell you if my rifle set at 9.1flb can put a .22 dome pellet in one side and out the other at 45 yards in a rabbits head, im sure a rifle set at a legal 11.9flb would still either badly hurt, mame or kill someone if shot in the right place at the right distance (point blank), or as i would say wrong place at the wrong distance!
the thing is its far too easy to buy a rifle from a gunsmith with out any background checks being done, i think if these checks were to be made prior to the sale of a gun problems like iv mentioned would become a thing of the past, but then again there is still the problem with people buying air rifles, getting board of it after a while then selling it on to whoever wants to pay good cash, usually the wrong person.
buying and selling on web sites like this is usually fine as everyone should have some common seance about shooting, but then again who knows?

What did you change to bring it down to 9fpe ?

hi i removed some of the spring spacers as i was having trouble with power creep (i.e going over 12flb itself) and spent an age getting it to sit at a consistent pressure over a number of shots. when i cronoed it it was sitting at 9.1flb average and i was a bit pist off at that due to under power but just today i was out with my shoot mate and we scoped our rifles at 30 yards then played about with the yards to see where on my retical the POI were and we got it down to a tea sub 1/4 – 1/2 from 15 – 60 yards so found my gun to be so good even at 9.1flb so im not realy bothered not about what i said in this post as iv answered my own question lol have a look at my retical that iv marked out…

thanks

I have a 24in TSS that in .25 makes 52fpe and in .22 makes 43fpe. Both setups have many sub 1/4″ 35yd groups. More power does not necessarily mean less consistency. In your case though, I would get the gun checked out. An 80fps spread is not acceptable in a 12fpe gun unless you are shooting a ridiculous number of shots.

hi well this dosent realy answer my question my gun sits very consistent at the moment at about 9.1 flb but when it was sitting at about 11.5flb it wasnt. if you read my origonal post you will find the fps stats for both presures and my main problem, power or consistancy?

thanks
