Power to the People!
In August I posted a particularly negative experience that I had with the shooting chrony company not to long ago. Some of you thought that I got what I deserved. HMM. Many others saw shooting chrony’s response for what it was. It was an evasion of their warranty. A warranty designed to get you and I to purchase their products. The vice president, mandy esteves, response to the situation was, in my opinion, deplorable.
Many people have contacted and thanked me for the heads up. Others have told me that they have purchased the Pro Chrono. (Others here have told me of their good experiences with the Pro Chrono…mine should be here in a few days).
I have filed complaints with the Better Business Breau, and the Federal trade Commission. I have also posted my negative experiences in many other places for the world to view. I do not expect a positive resolution other than affecting their bottom line and warning my fellow sportsmen about this possible pitfall.
We don’t have to take this gargabe without recourse. The internet is a valuable tool for communications. We can now share with others our positive and negative experiences for all to benefit from, worldwide. This is just too cool. 😎

Come on Pab, I like the parasail idea. Lurker’s problem is that he failed to nail it to the concrete and use guy wires. 😉 I’m sure that if we inform shooting chrony of his modification, they will start selling us those parts with the sc logo on them. Wouldn’t that be cool?

Forgive me Lurker, but 😆 😆 😆 I can just see this contraption falling over and blowing in your face. 😀 Like a kite or a parasail. The thing we have to do to make our gismos work. If it breaks, Don’t tell shooting chrony how it happened. They will use your adaptation that makes their product work for to wiggle out of their warranty. 😉
Like I said, I gave up and moved into the garage. The shooting chrony beta was just too much of a hassle.
My Alpha Shooting Chrony has given me many 32 shot strings without errors, an occasional error for no apparent reason, and once in a while a reading 400-600 way high. Solid overcast and hopefully not raining is the best time.
For sunny days I made a frame out of dowel rods and paint sticks and cover it with a black trash bag with a dowel in each side. Now I have a new enemy, the wind. Also this summer I had another problem pop up as I got to the range later in the day. Around 6 PM the sun would get low enough to be under the roof but still over the roof of our RV. I might as well quit shooting for about 20 minutes then and pump up the tank. We have several nice ranges at Sabers Shooting Assoc. but most of them face east or west. Ya can’t cover the Chrony in the direction you shoot. The 50 yard range does have an indoors heated area that would work but I like to shoot outdoors to better communicate with any other shooters. About 3/4 of the time I have either the 100/200 yard range or the 50 yard small bore range to myself.
Last week the wind blew my Chrony over while mounted on a camera tripod with the black trash bag cover. Later it blew the cover off and into my face. Mam’s idea of mounting it on a board sounds interesting. I could clamp the board to the shooting bench above or below 💡 Next time out I’ll measure it up.
Yes, we would like to know what brand chronograph you have. Are you using it inside or outdoors? If indoors, what lighting are you using? Have you fabricated any type of jig/fixture that puts the muzzle in exactly the same place every time? We can shoot our airguns much closer than powder burners. These are pieces of the puzzle that I had to learn about the hard way.
When I was tuning my .25 Marauder, I had worked out these issues pretty well. It took alot of trial and error but once I had figured it out, things got pretty good. Others would have given up out of frustration. My biggest problem was that the display wasn’t fully forming the last two digits properly and I had to estimate them. But it worked well enough.
I am looking forward to my Pro Chrono Digital. I will certainly post my results.
Look forward to your review. I will check what brand mine is but I gotta tell you I have had mixed results from the day I got it. I know to throw out the errrors and hit reset and try again. Sometimes I get 20 shots in a row that read and sometimes I get every other one.
My Beta didn’t work worth a shit outside. Sunny day, cloudy day, sky screen, no sky screen. I went to visit Steve at Pomona Airguns and saw his set up inside his work shop. He basically had a backstop with a chronograph in front of that with lights attached to the sky screens. He placed the muzzle less than a foot from the first sky screen and pulled the trigger. So, I came home and set up basically the same set up in my garage and things got alot better. There were still error messages but I tracked those down to paper fragments that had fallen into the rear sensor. I fixed that by placing a small piece of clear plastic tape over the sensor’s window. Then I just blew off the paper fragments and dust from time to time. Mamcrackin took it a step further buy affixing his chronograph to a board and then securing his gun to the board at the other end so as to get the projectile to pass over the same part of the sensors and that increased his reliability and consistency.
My Beta unit did many functions that I didn’t use. It was overly complicated and I had to refer to the manual frequently. I bought it thinking that I would grow into it. Not so. I also bought it because that’s what PyramidAir was selling…and I liked the pretty blue color 😀
My new Pro Chrono Digital is due here in a few days. I will post my experiences with it.
If I had a Combro that was malfunctioning, I would clean it out throughly. It seems like lead dust could foul the unit causing erratic function. Just a thought.
Yeah slayer, thats what I thought, all those type of chronys seem to be like that, you have to get more lights, switch other lights off, get the angle right and give a sacrifice to Ballisticon, the God of Ballistics before it all works.
That why I love my combro so much, it has always been easy to use, quick and very reliable. Not so much nowadays though, seems to eat batteries and not likes to read the .25 JSBs!! Mind you, shooting it ‘a bit’ didn’t help…. 🙄 😆
Might just order another one of those if I can find one.

I do not remember what brand mine is but I bought the extra lights to go over the top. I use mine in the basement. I shut off all the floresant lights and just use the extra lights they give you for light by the target (chrono)
I never shoot a full string without an error message and usually have to hit the reset button after an error or the dam thing will not read anything again. I will check what model I have. So you have to shoot closer to the sensor? even the .25 marauder reads error and that is a pretty good size pellet!
