QB PCP Laminates….
Finally got around a couple weeks ago to refinishing my Laminate stocks. Finished up both QB’s and an HW30AW. I had previously finished them with Polyurethane and really just didnt like the finish. Tried this time with regular Tung Oil and I think I got them where I want them. Top is the HW30AW with a Steve Corcoran DIY stock, next is a Joe Bontranger QBPCP in .22 with a Richards MicroFit stock and bottom is a Jack Haley QBPCP in .177 with a Richards stock.

Thanks Rob, that is some very useful info for me. I have 2 rifles with unfinished laminates. I will have to try Tung oil on the grey one and see what happens.
Linseed oil darkened it up, but no shine like you have achieved.

The stocks are hand rubbed with Tung Oil, around 6 coats and then a coat of Johnsons Paste wax applied. I’m thinking I’ll try the tung oil on some walnut next sans my normal RLO that I use.
Dam nice work Rob, did you just hand rub or buff? Any Wax applied over the top? They really look nice, i’m not the biggest fan of laminates but seem to be coming around. Have my eye on that silver laminate.

I find it easier to call them with what you want. The two shown are both Tackdriver series inletted for the QB78 series. Top is Black Pepper Laminate and bottom is Royal Camo Laminate. You have a few choices of forearms on the Tackdriver series and I chose a bench style for the .22 and something else (name escapes me) for the other.
Looking good, Rob. One question, though. How do you get an airgun stock from Richards, they don’t have any listed that I’ve ever seen. And what model(s) are the ones you have? Thanks.

With linseed it needs to be the boiled variety and cut in half with mineral spirits, the wax does help in creating a sheen. It is the listed oil in Casey’s birchwood oil finish. Its not a bad wood oil to work with. Furnitutre quality oil like tung or danish some of which are tinted have a certain appeal to me. LIke the Mahogany set i’m working on, be nice to have just a bit of red in the oil to bring out that natural red in mahogany. I have been thinking of going the tung oil or danish route myself in the future. Most oils will darken the wood some as it gives it a wet look, your appling a liguid to a pourous surface. Looks like a top notch job would have loved to seen some before pics. You make laminates a little more appealing to me Rob.
