question about TACs
okay- i know TACs are a touchy subject… but really theyre the only way to get a project of mine done. i want to shoot a .22 cal heavy (kodiak) 20 fpe. thoughts on how large the TAC would have to be?

have u look at the saxby palmer bolt action rifle it is what the brocock system was based on in the early 80s the air cartridge was 20mm in diameter and was 80 mm long roughly did have sum until the bobby’s decided to take them the system is really disliked here in the uk section 5 🙁 i still got the dedicated bench pump the cartridge where made in plastic then later in metal they didn’t produce hi ftps ether
I say great project 😀 I always liked the TAC system. You will get 12ftlb no problems probably even more if you wanted it. I am guessing your in the US but if not just be warned in many places round the world TAC guns are now prohibited to own, make or sell.
yes- the TACs, are pretty much a valve, air tank, and pellet holder in one little package…and just so everyone that doesnt know of me, my project ideas are insanely expensive, or hard to do, usually both at once, and usually just not worth the trouble. some of the great guys on this forum have talked me out of some of my ideas, but this one is stuck in my mind, and im not going to stop till its done…now, onto the project. even the original Brocock guns used .22 or .177 guns used an airgun barrel for their conversions. the original guns these TACs used were converted real-steel. im going to (hopefully) modify these TACs to be a bit bigger, but still shooting .22’s. i want to convert a remington 700 to shoot a .308 sized TAC. ill be using a 17.7″ (per almost all of the original brocock rifles) or 18″ LW barrel, w/a barrel shroud w/the same exterior dimensions (or as close as i can get it) as an M40A1 barrel, w/internal baffles like the Marauder. a solid 12 fpe is the goal, (more’s nice too) and that’s easy to silence. even the MROD baffle system should be able to quiet that. the brocock rifles from what ive read were pretty accurate for what they were, and these should be no different. max range for me would only be 30-35 yards at most. i know guys- why do it, it’ll be crazy expensive…but it fulfills some goals for me- a true bolt action w/round feeding, being able to own a M40A1 that i can shoot practically anywhere, the WOW factor, and owning something that no one else has.
never have seen this, so it works by compressing the air in the small chamber behind the pellets, huh,. it would not be very accurate, the rifle twist rates would not work out with the small pellets, i have played around with 22 cal pellets in 222 Remington and 223 cases and the accuracy was dismal at best at 25 yards, but something to play with if a guy had a mind too.
I had ans idea to build a silent varmint combo with a contender 16″ barrel in 222 Remington, tried 22 cal pellets, accuracy lousy, i tried 30 grain cb cap bullets bought from cabela’s , twist rate all wrong, 1″ to 1 1/2″ at 25 yards all i could get, needed a longer 22 cal slug,for the rifling in the 222, so i ws needing to by a 22 cal mold for around a 50 to 55 grain bullet, but never have , yet.
what rifle , do you have in mind to try this in.

yuppers i was talking about the Tandem Air Cartridges…well, and titties…mmmm titties. anyhoo- i didnt know that they had a specific psi charge, i thought it was just based on the volume. what are the brocock carts running on, 3k? im hoping to fit whatever cart is designed inside a “remington 700” breech…of course it wont be a Rem 700 short action, but it’ll look like it. but everything will be custom made for the TAC (or BAC if that’s less confusing). any thoughts on sizes? anyone willing to make them? thoughts on price? thanks all!!

Never knew they had a “real” name (or forgot…). always just thought of them as “brocock cartridges”.
No problem discussing them here, but the word Brocock might get a few chuckles out of the more immature among us.
TAC is a tandem air cartridge. As for size for 20ftlb it would depend on what pressure your running. Something like a standard .223 would be possible but it may easyer with something bigger. If you have a look at the old Brocock TACs they where good for about 12ftlb on a bolt action gun as long as the barrel was not to short.

When I Picked up my AR, I noticed near the front door
a glass case with a bunch of pellets, the case also had a bunch of Brocock
cartridges, seemed to me they were looking to off load them
