Anyone out there have a 45 or 50 cal hunting gun,or maybe some info on a 9mm,thinking of a big game gun thats why Im asking,dragon slayer looks good to me but,ammo is not cheap…I appreciate any info,dont want to waste money and time,did a search on 50cal air rifle and showed me some guys shooting 180 yrds with airguns just was not clear what kind they were?

reminds of an old Jack Pine Savage trick used by some here in Northern Minnesota…
take a .410 shotgun and cut the barrel down, forget the length I saw used
take a .410 shell cutting the top off and remove the shot, wad and roughly half the powder charge replacing the wad.
Load shot shell normally then feed the arrow slowly down the bore while rotating the shaft until it grounds out against the wad
shoot bambi and tag during Archery season 😆 😆 😆
knew a couple of old farts that couldn’t pull a bow that road hunted with rigs like this years back with certain success
thanks I am looking, I use a 44 cal sabot with the insert in my Encore muzzle loader. figured the 45 would work,not sure I can even used it in Ohio to hunt deer then again I have my own property seems to me the hole would appear the same 🙄
You have a few choices out there
The Dragon slayers while very accurate are rather anemic in stock trim and due to the design there is not a great deal that can be done to improve performance
The Sam Yang .45 can be had reasonable on the used market and can be hot rodded quite a bit
The DAQs are great if you can get on his list when he opens it up otherwise expect to pay upwards of a grand used unless you are very lucky
Jack Haley has built some great and a few apparently not so great big bores. I have one I am more than satisfied with as do a few others here, others have had some QC issues
Myself, I honestly think .45 is about as small as you should go on a deer hunting AG
yes it can be done with less but why bother?
another option if legal for hunting in your State is the Tadagger conversion for the Condor which is more effective than most any other archery type product in terms of energy and accuray
there are a few other options as well, depends on how deep your pockets are.
I agree,im speaking of deer or hogs,I would eventually make my own slugs.
How big of game are you speaking here? Is hunting the only thing you want to do with the rifle?
There’s cheap ammo out there for most calibers to use for general plinking, but if you are going after truly big game such as Bear, Elk, Caribou, Moose etc just get the best ammo you can find, or better yet learn to cast your own slugs if you are so inclined.
What rifles to point you to largely depends on what you want to hunt, and whether or not you want to do any plinking with it.

I think the DAQ are supposed to be some of the best if you can get ahold of one.
