Question for Ed
Hi Ed, have you ever considered adapting your Edgun to .30 caliber, (7.62mm)???…..or maybe 9mm? Just a thought.

Unfortunately the Matador R3 & R2.5 is not available in 177 or i’d own one right now… 😉
The Leyla is and I think the Veles is too.
I’ve considered getting a R3 in 22 and putting a 17 cal barrel and turning it down but the retail price is too high to then turn it into a totally different rifle unshot. I wanted to use one for FT competition. Why you ask? Because nobody is using one for FT and the compactness could work well. 😀
Now I have been considering getting a Leyla and converting it to a FT Pistol shooter (basically making a new stock even though I really like the current stock) since I have FT rifles.
I think at some point, Ed has to draw a line in his production plans and decide if he stays with the calibers popular with the masses, and designs them, over time, to perfection and beyond.
The three calibers currently in most favor are .117, .22 and .25
Larger calibers are up in the heavy hunter/large bore shooter category, and limited demand is unlikely to pay for the design costs in valve reconstruction and other pcp properties needed to beef up the system.
Right now, a quality large caliber pcp costs a LOT of money and requires months and months of waiting time.
So far, Ed has listened to the howling mobs, and made fantastic strides in the three most popular mass market calibers. There is no mass market in the large bore pcp rifles and the costs to fabricate them would raise their cost outside of most individuals pocketbooks. If the .117, .22 and .25 calibers are now going for almost two thousand USD, I believe the specialist technician labor, new parts design, limited orders, and such, would make these large bores cost at least double the current Matador price. If I’m coughing up four thousand USD, I’d buy two different Matadors instead.
I’ve got to be brutally honest, I don’t want to pay a $1.00 per slug, use massive quantities of air, and part with a huge amount of cash just to make larger holes in a target. If a .25 pellet falls on someone’s head, it might sting. If a 9mm or 40+ caliber slug drops on someone, it’s going to hurt and leave a wound. Too much liability, too much cost, too little market, backyard shooting out of the question, and generally a very specialized shooter item.
If a person really wants that large a slug, why not go the full Monty and get a firearm, or order one from one of the existing hand-builders marketing such big boys. That kind of high performance exceeds what 90% of us air gunners need, or want.
Just my opinion….not everyone agrees, I’m sure.
Besides, with Ed already having functional semi and full automatic actions, but not marketing them, makes me believe he has a few surprises up his sleeve for the coming Spring and Summer. Again, just my opinion…

I hear people say who needs .25 for squirrels a well placed .177 works. bullcrap! .25 to body anchors them try that with .177
He doesn’t like the .25 and prefers the .22, so why botter? 🙂
I was just thinking that Ed’s a pretty bright guy who takes pride in his products. A bigbore Edgun would probably be rather impressive.
Seems the Edgun is a power house in .25 and would be a good fit for an upgrade! 😉

Your point is well taken Hoot. IMany guys in this sport seem to have good jobs and spend as their hearts desire. I just figure that Ed is pretty good at what he does, like Tony, and that a big bore might be something he would play around with. It would be interesting to see what he comes up with. But you’re right. his plate is full.
Synopsys, your right on with your desire to try an Edgun on a FT range. They are accurate and might very well give you an edge with their compactness. I’m sure you would surprise many people at an FT match with one of Ed’s reliable and accurate little guns. Kind of a back to basics approach.
