Question for the 22xx crowd…EDIT UPDATE!!!!
…2550 disco carbine light hunter…and I am trying to figure out a few things with the hammer and spring…
I noticed that on the crosman website the part number for the hammer in the discovery is the same part number for the hammer in the 2300 pistol…but the part number for the 2240 pistol is different. To make things more confusing, I have a hammer from a 2250 so I am ASSuming it is the same hammer as the 2240??? If I need to add some weight to the hammer, any suggesstions in lieu of a custom hammer???
My first preliminary tests show a great lack in power. I am using a heavy hammer spring provided to me by Joe from Muzzlemack, and I am using a stock disco valve with a TP counter sink/poly tubing mod…but I only saw 570 fps with the jsb exact 25.4 gr That is only 18 fpe. I was expecting much more as I think the stock disco in .22 puts out around 24 fpe and I too am using a 24″ barrel.
I suspect that I am loosing air through the O ring as I had to make due with a spare bolt probe after “MONGO” snapped the Mountain Air .25 cal probe in half while cocking (I don’t know about you guys, but from here on in I am using stainless steel bolt probes and handles…)
I also will re check my transfer port tubing to make sure I am getting a proper seal on both ends…
I just wanted to see what you guys thought I should get fps/fpe wise with the 25.4 jsb exacts????
I retapped the Mountain Air .25 bolt probe and put a new o ring on it. It appears I was loosing some air out of the breech I am now achieving 615 fps with the 25.4 exact kings…which is around 21fpe…but I was expecting to achieve more than this. I cannot put in a heavier hammer spring as the one that is in their now is hard enough to cock back (hence my snapping the first handle in half…). I may try a lighter valve spring next (what do you think about this???) and of course, I am open to suggesstions from the gurus here. I will be installing a Boss valve soon, but I would like to achieve some more energy out of this disco valve first….

also have you polished the hammer yet? seemed to work very well for my 22xx
Wait to you see your condor grip modified by “MongoGrit”! She sure is purdy…but I was hoping to post pics after I cronied some numbers and shot some groups. Since it is your grip, I’ll pm you a sneak preview 😆
Yes, I polished the hammer. And it is not a notched hammer. I forget the exact weight, but when I compared the weight to the notched hammers…the solid ones weigh much more…I just redid the tp and it is not leaking. I need to re tap the .25 cal bolt probe and get that back on it as the flow through one I am using now—although it seems to be proper size—is for a .22. I feel a little air escaping from the breech.
