Question on potential HPA hose configurations????
What would the options be for making custom rigid HPA lines to connect an air tube to a “buddy tank” affixed to a rifle.
Ideally I see it as the kind of lines that Automotive AC shops use on Hot rods when running those killer looking aluminum lines… I would need a straight drop down off of the front end of the air tube (approx 2 to 3 inches, into a 90 then perhaps another 2 to three inches into the “regulated tank”??? I know I can use the basic braided hoses, but I wanted to check with the experts on my options on having one custom welded as a “hard line”. Thanks.

That stuff looks good and stainless is stainless, but will I be able to double flare the ends like I could brake lines. If the brake lines would work, they come with this black coating on them, and they would be much easier to bend, I’d imagine. I didn’t see a psi rating on the 25 ft brake lines in grangier. I will give them a call.
Thanks packrat. I don’t think those are hardlines. The whole idea of the hardlines and the ability to bend them, would be to keep them close to the “lines” of the rifle this way it would be much nicer looking then just having a line running against rather than with the “lines” of the rifle. Brake lines may be the route to go if they can handle the psi which it seems they can. Bonestock and others have pointed to grainger and their many products that will help!

i would use a stainless steel hydrloic tubind u can get it for over 3000psi just make sure its flaired right and get the proper fittings

Sticking to a small ID is the key. Working pressure becomes much more managable with smaller diameter. For instance, 316 or 304 tube with a 1/8″ bore and .062 wall has a working pressure of over 9000psi, and an ultimate burst pressure over 35000psi (based on 70k to 75k ultimate strength factor for 316. One caution though, if you bend the tube you will weaken it and thin it! That means you can’t run at the stated limit of the tube. I would double it at least. Triple would be better and because the tube is small you can do that pretty easily As stated above, welding is a no-no! Actually, a good automitive brakeline might be the ticket for a number of reasons. it is made to be bent with minimal strength loss, and it resists fatigue failure better. You would have to check the spec on it, but I think it runs around 6000psi working pressure (don’t take my word for that though!).
Your idea has really got my gears nashing! I’m thinking buttstock bottle with a hardline connection 😯

Thanks Bonestock, that is what I was hoping to hear. Any clue on the diameter of that 316? I’d imagine it is comparable to A/C lines in diameter. Either way, I think many of the custom jobs guys do with pcp’s, HPA, or even Co2 would look much cleaner with some custom welded runs of that as oppossed to braided lines or rubber lines….
I work with the 1/8 ” I.D stuff pretty often. The pressure ratings vary depending on what wall thickness you go with. I think the 1/8″ stuff starts at 4200psi and goes up from there. You dont need to weld it because it can be bent with a stainless tubing bender. Very clean look. I’ll try to find some links for ya.

Try dropping Jim @ Marmot Militia a line, he can do all kinds of stuff.
316 stainless mechanical instrument tubing is what you want. Grainger has it and all the fittings. Parker Hydraulics also sells it.

You’ve not been real clear on what you want to accomplish. But, please don’t think that the automotive lines are Ok for HPA! HPA is far higher pressure than any automotive applicatition other than diesel injector lines….

You can flare the 316 but I would just use the compression fittings instead. I can’t speek much for the brake line but I know the wall is pretty thin and brake lines typically see less than 2500psi in an automotive type brake system.
