question: scope mount inner diameter
Hello-
I am looking into making my own scope mount (not a machinist) for my S410.
If my tube is 32mm, what inner diameter should I make the mount for a tight fit? 32mm or a little smaller, will be using s screw to clamp it together.
somthing like a number 8 with screw on the top end.

I would cut the holes 32mm for a perfect fit. I made a triple clamp mount for a street bike before and I bored the holes for the forks the same as the forks OD. Worked perfected.
If you don’t make it the same you won’t have equal pressure on the scope tube.

I.D. can’t be same size or smaller as the scope won’t fit into the ring. I know a metal pin won’t go into a metal hole that’s same size as the pin being used! Maybe 1 or 2 thousandths and enough clearance/gap for the 2 halves not to touch when tightened.
When a dowel pin hole is the right size and the hole is not open on the bottom, a coat of oil on the pin will make air compress and the dowel will pop out of the hole every time you force it into the hole. The oil will seal and the air will compress, forcing the pin out of the hole due to compression.
