How can you tell old from new on a cricket?
When did they change the gauge from colors to numbers? PLASTIC TO METAL ON VALVE? Is there serial numbers that maybe refrenced to tell difference?

The colored ones come in different versions, but once you get used to them, there’s no problem.
I am led to believe the initial reason for using colored gauge faces had to do with power restrictions in the original coutry of produce, Russia. Using colors and not numbers may have been a part of a “camo”-scheme facing the authorities……. 😉
At least that’s how the story goes…………

First of all I had 2500 shots on my .22 std Cricket on the plastic/metal valve stem and it was still going strong when I changed it to the metal one. Ernest mentioned that about serial # 000800 was the change over. Mine was 000461 but the changeover occurred in mid 2013 so new guns are all metal. They are very easy to change. If your serial # is lower you can get a free valve stem to replace it with. The gauge goes either way depending on availability from Wiki. Its not really important. Either work fine once you know where the bar numbers line up on the colors.
