Questions about machining my own valve
Hey guys, I have a modified gunpower stealth valve (Talon) and I seem to get 20 shots at an average of 800 fps with .22 kodiaks. I am getting a 24″ barrel and would like to get velocities at the butter zone of 950 fps. Would I get this with my standard valve etc. but with the aid of the longer barrel (I currently have 12″) I think I will be over and would have to tune it down. My tophat is set quite low at about .067″ so I dont know howmuch lower I can go with it.
My solution to this was going to be to machine my own high-flow valve which would give better flow characteristics meaning that the air would be delivered to the pellet more efficiently meaning that I can tune it down and possibly get more shots than my normal setup?
One possible solution for me is that I think I can still screw in my spring retainer meaning that I can use a lower fill pressure (Currently filling to 3000 psi to get the bell curve) so I can open up the tophat a bit more to give me more adjustability.
Such a balancing act with these rifles.
I think I might just leave it for the moment and see how it goes with my 24″ barrel.

Thats good news. I kind of would rather a 24″ barrel for the power but I think that 18″ will be a good comprimise of power and portability.
That would put me at an average of 900 fps over 20 shots. Seems quite good 😀

I have a post on the Condor page and it shows where I went from the 12″ to a 18″ barrel and my rifle went from 850fps shooting JSB Monsters with the 12″ to 950fps with the 18″… Least that is what happened with mine with a simple barrel change. I didn’t change anything else on mine…
Now if you read that thread, I don’t shoot a standard Condor either, but still the barrel change may net you what your looking for…
Yeah thanks for the info, however I have been lurking for a while now (One day I went through reading every thread in the condor section, every single one)
I have put off building or buying a new valve because I have an 18″ parker hale barrel coming and in going to see what my velocitys are with it.
I have sent off for my lathe motor to be fixed and will see what I feel like when it gets back. Ideally I want to source another tank so I can have my original airforce tank and am able to swap to the homemade high flow valve without emptying the tank.
I have an idea but will start another thread

Both Sean who goes by the user names blobnob on here or Drum http://www.leupyscustomshop.co.uk are both based in the UK. Both can sell you the parts you are looking for and it would save you a lot of work. Though buy the sounds of things Sean may be having a tea brake so don’t know when he will be back making bits. Saying this I had no problems getting Hiflow valves sent from the US.
Dave, if your getting 800 out of your 12″ barrel, I think you should be close to 900 with the 24″. I get 900 out of my talon tank shooting 21.1 Gr. Kodiaks/Barracudas.
I have a talon valve at the moment and since I’m in the UK a high flow valve would be rather hard for me to get hold of. This is why I was asking if i could machine my own high-flow valve.
But im just gunna stick with my setup for the moment and see what it does with the 24″ barrel

If you already have a hi-flow vavle, then all you need to do is adjust the top-hat to allow more volume of air-flow to increase the velocities and it will descrease the number of shot when top-hat adjusted for high air flow.
The second generation of AF hi-flow valve for the Condor will push that pellets with supersonic speed, you have to do fine tunes to find best spot for your toy.
Well, I thought that a higher flow would mean less flow restrictions meaning that for the same FPS, it would use less air per shot.
But yes i agree with you, I will get the 24″ mounted and see how she shoots.

you want to build a high flow then tune it down……
seems so ….. bassackwards…….
Mount the 24″ and tune that valve and see how the shot count and accuracy is.

Dude, I have had to make just about everything on my Condor, other than the frame and scope LOL… There is nothing stock on this rifle…
