"Generation Kill Movie Question"

Hello, there.
I enjoyed the series “Generation Kill” on HBO, despite the usual lean to the left by that channel. There was a character, Brad “Iceman” Colbert who had an M-4 with a cool scope . During the day, he’d put a cover with a tiny opening over the front glass of the scope. At night, it was , well, night vision.
Does anyone know what this scope is called, or anything about it?
Thanks.

Now the good news! The current generation of high quality Sniper scopes have a anti reflective coating on the objective lens. No reflections!

Re-Zeiss, Hensolt, Schmit&Bender,Luepold,NightForce,U.S.Optis and others. Even their sporting versions no longer reflect! 😉 😀 Mike

What an observer can see, if in direct alignment with the scope and shooter is a lighter “HOLE” where there shouldn’t be. But the angle has to be exact, and you have to know exactly what to look for!

Photonis dep makes image intensifiers with a B&W fosfor screen. They call it ONYX. Nifty but I like the appeal the green nv has!

Cheers

Well, there is a huge Raytheon here where I live, may be I should go do a bit of dumpster diving 😯 😯 😯 😯
Actually I have quite a few friends that work there, but they don’t talk shop.

SAW

Its real – made by Raytheon (bit of trivia – their HQ is in Mass), doesnt look much like that scope in pictures I saw of that characters weapon and they are HUGE.

I was assuming NV and not Thermal from your post – Thermal are not affected by light so can be used during day – filter would just be as freddy said to cut down on reflection off the lens so enemy don’t see it.

Thanks, Guys.
I recall in one scene, a view through “Brad’s” scope at night. They were trapped at a bridge, and in an ambush. The view was crystal clear, and in black and white…no green.
Hollywood again?
I just looked on the HBO site, and by clicking on “gear up” and then on the Marines’ scope, they call it a AN/PAS-13b Thermal Weapons Sight(TWS).

Think it’s real?

The purpose of the cover with the small hole is to eliminate the reflection off the objective lens so the enemy has one less thing to locate you.

It appears to be a poor movie prop version of the AN/PVS-17.
