received a call from the customs today.. seems my gatt is on her way home released from the cluches of those evil men… have to say im a happy boy which is a good thing cause my girlfriend has been threatening to kick me out due to my pissyness and the amount of money i have`nt spent on her… it good to be here.. i have been looking through posts and havnt seen much about temperature change using the normal air tanks i live in a country where the winters are -25c do theres guns hold up in cold weather??? cause thats when most of the animals come out to play here.. thanks

shit i CLUB seals with moving parts really its even easier when their not moving 😛 man … -25 thats cold, rarly even gets 25 degress here not sure ..but maybe once or twice in my life time…. roughfuly 100 years .. 😉

I used to paintball with C02 when it was cold and my gun would
blow ice out the barrel. Got a sock filled with hand warmers, They last a long time. And Bang problem fix.
My dad would get mad at me when I was young for heating my Co2 cartridges with his lighter or the stove before putting them in my air gun.
I did a test (when a teenager) I layed a hand size propane torch on it’s side lit and layed a c02 in front of it and promptly ran in the house.
Full blue flame on this thing and it to at least 2min to pop.
Well maybe more of a BOOM! So I was allways sure the little heating I done was of no danger to me. When I play with our little C02 rifle and the cartridges are cold which most are unless they are stored in the sun.
They still get the Lighter tretment no more torches or stoves though.
For my marauder I keep my scuba tank outside the night
before I have it filled So It gets a total fill. I then return home and wrap it in my heating pad. lol. I got an addiction to heating.lol

If I read Walter’s original text correctly… 14.5psi is the additional pressure introduced by the atmosphere… i.e. your pressure gauge has 14.5psi pressing on it even when it’s reporting 0.
So our tanks and pressure gauges have 1 bar subtracted from all their numbers when manufactured.
actually,
psi2=((psi1+14.5)*(temp2+460)/(temp1+460))-14.5
is incorrect. there’s a needless error introduced by the 14.5 when temp1 and temp2 are not the same. that would be ok if using 14.5 simplified the calculation but it does not.
rounding 459.4 to 460 adds a rounding error but that’s ok because it simplifies the calculation.
so, the guy-lussac law using fahrenheit is exactly:
P2 = P1*(T2+459.4)/(T1+459.4)
and rounded to whole numbers:
P2 ~ P1*(T2+460)/(T1+460)
for fahrenheit, this might be easier for some to use:
P2 = pressure at temp T2
P1 = pressure at temp T1
both temps in fahrenheit:
P2 = P1 * (T2+459.4)/(T1+459.4)
+1 on above… The rule of thumb is 5psi change for each 1F change when working with these pressures.
Assuming your gun shoots in the average starting sweet spot of 2400-2600psi….
* Tank and Pump/SCUBA at ambient temperature of 25C / 77F charge to 3000psi
* Go outside and let cool to ambient -25C / -13F for a nice 2500psi start pressure.
* When you finish shooting do not charge outside… return home, warm, and fill.
During the summer you may want to charge 100psi less depending on you outside temperature.

i’ve never shot in temps below 10c so someone else will need address that.
but in general chat there have been 2 recent threads dealing with pressure changes due to temperature changes.
you can expect a significant drop in tank pressure when going from room temp ~20 to -25c (3000psi to ~2539psi).
and if you go outside and pump to 3000psi (at -25) and take your tank inside and warm it to ~20, pressure will increase to ~3544psi.
so, you might want to fill to 3000psi inside, take your tank outside for a few hours and top-up to 3000psi outside.
then, most importantly, make sure your pressure is not much greater than 2500 psi while at -25c before warming your tank inside.
