"Power adjuster" woes….
The other day I had occasion to pull the spring preload assembly from my SS at the range. My friend Vincent was there with good advice, except for warning me that the little screw that rides in the slot (the indicator) was frail plastic. So, of course, I broke it off.
For the last month or so I’ve been shooting it at a fixed setting (4) while I got around to ordering parts from AF. I decided to order a new male end in case I couldn’t get the broken stub of the screw out along with several screws.
Today I went to put the new parts in. Unfortunately, the new (plastic) male didn’t fully thread into the (metal) female. Silicone lube did no good, the threads just got too tight. Fortunately I was able to use a jewlerr’s screwdriver to thread the stub out of the original and was able to reuse it.
So, my adivce is should you ever need to order parts for this assembly, consider ordering a complete assembly. The chances of the pieces fitting together and working might be better.

It turns out it is a 4-40 X .125 screw. I used a 4-40 X .250 and filed it down some (it wants to be like .170 or so).
