R3m barrel removal?
Ok, I’ve got the barrel nut off the barrel, but th receiver or breech or whatever you want to call the part threaded in to side you load the pellet into is still tight. I can’t get it loose cause I can’t get a good enought hold on the barrel. Do I need heat or double nut the other end? Crap, I don’t have access to any nuts that size locally. Any help would be great, I’ve already put a nice gouge into the old barrel (which I was hoping to reuse some day). Time tried a strap wrench but the polished surface of the barrel just spins.

My concern is that the distortion on the outside of the barrel has caused a tight spot or something that will affect accuracy. If the tension of a set screw can cause issues, I figure this mark, which looks like someone tried to cut too much with a dull lathe bit and stopped, will probably not be 100% anymore.
Just take a file to it and smooth the ridges down. I doubt you needed to clamp grips down enough the bend barrel out of round.
Got it. Finally said to hell with it. If gouges or plyer marks on the outside of a barrel cause issues, then I already fucked this one up, so I just started with the visegrips and a little bit of rubber around the barrel, I put another mark in it, but its done. If I go back to the standard barrel, il either buy a new one, or I’ll just use it as the example when I get a smooth twist barrel made. Anyone ever put a mark 1/32″ deep gouge on the outside of a barrel and not seen issues with it?
Thanks, but the gouge was through the protective leather sleeve I made out of an old couch. That’s how tight the dam thing is. Makes me feel a little better that its supposed to come out easier than this. I found a lug nut that is right threads but its way too thick to double nut so I’m going to have to grind it way, way down. I started with wood soft jaws, moved past rubber inter tube and then went with the leather. I hate to pull out the blue wrench (torch).
I wrapped the black piece that the barrel screws into with a leather glove and placed it into a vise. Next I took the other leather glove and wrapped around the barrel a few times and used a vise grip to clamp down and unscrewed easily. The leather is so that the teeth of the vise grip doesn’t eat into the barrel.
PS, you can use anything you want other than leather glove. I just happened to have a pair laying around near the vise lol.

I would bet it will shoot just fine. Even a deep scrape on the exterior is not likely to translate into impacts on accuracy. You will never know for sure until you give it a try. Save your money until you know for sure.
