Q:

Raw AF Frame

This showed up today.

31.5″ long. At first I was excited because it looked better than a AF frame inside. There was no groove inside the frame and it looked almost polished. So I started measuring and everything was checking out good until I found that the hole is .008″ egg shaped. It is tighter top to bottom.

So I decided to make a 1.5″ pieces to see what it would feel like in the frame. Well it rocks side to side a little. Then I was thinking I would just put the screws on top and bottom of the frame instead of on the bottom and side.

Now I’m wondering if it is even worth all the work to figure out where everything goes. If it wasn’t egg shaped I would say yes but there is a lot of work to machine into a working frame and to have it not work right would be a bummer.

It was likely an AF reject.

I wish I had the skills/tools to measure the piece when I got it, that way all of this could have been avoided… UGH. :angrymob:

Yes and I’m tired of trading messages with them. They keep saying because it was so long sorry it was damaged in shipping. I keep telling them it was not. Then I tell them it is not what the drawing is. They say +- 1 mm. That’s .040″ .

I guess I need to open up a Dispute. They keep wanting positive feed back.

Well Piss! I have two raw frames that need machining… damn it if they didn’t look good… keep us posted Doug! Is this frame from AliExpress?

Would it help running a drill through it, to make the egg shape round or would that thin the walls to much? Where did you buy the raw frame Doug?

No. Don’t know if that would work.

It was just a gamble to see how good they are. Maybe I will tell them what is wrong and they can try and fix it.

Doug,

Have you ever considered running a series of ball bearings through the frame to get it concentric?
