Q:

Real talon ss 177 velocities

I was real happy when I put the new 177 barrel in, the accuracy is fine, and the power is 14fpe at 790fps w/CPH’s. Pretty mild bark to it.

CO2 is super quiet, but velocity is anemic at on 450fps w/CPH’s, I was hoping for 575-600fps. But it does work, and it’s accurate for indoor shooting. It’s about 68 F here in the basement.

Any guys have real data using the Micro-tank in 177-12″????? Micro might be “JUST RIGHT” like Goldilocks said.

If you are talking about a springer the difference is your recoil between the ground and the hand.

quote Cdnhunter117:

does anyone know why if I sight it in off hand, then when I shoot it while in prone it will always shoot way off?

it’s because your hold, cheek weld, and line of sight is different when shooting off hand and prone. if you sight it in for off hand it will hit when shooting that way, same goes for prone.

My gun shoots 500 fps cause over that’s illegal here, it was 150$ so does anyone know why if I sight it in off hand, then when I shoot it while in prone it will always shoot way off?
This is it, I know it’s a piece of shit

I should have a talon in a few months

I shoot Co2 with the factory top hat setting (which is about .100) per their recommendation that it is designed for that. I also take their recommendation of PW=0. With that, testing at about 78 degrees F, I get what they get. I only have a 12″ .177 barrel, but with CPL’s I get 700 fps, with CP .22’s – 12″ = 600, 18″= 670 fps, and 24″ = 735fps. I love it – and I get 600+ shots per 12 oz CO2 bottle. OK, these were really just tests, I mostly just shoot my 24″ barrel on C02 as its a great speed for plinking.

Top hat was gapped at about 0.050, and I increased it to 0.080 and the power increased to 580fps w/10.5grain crosman preimers, which is a fine power level for most uses, including: indoor plinking, and suburban pest sniping.

Less power than the 1000fps!!!!!! cheesy springer crowd, but it’s accurate, quiet and has no recoil, what could be better?

I put the micro on my Condor .25 and got 510fps. with a crow mag.

Thats what Rob meant you shine a laser at them and they go Crazy. You can probably work out these things later when you get your gun and can mess around with it, if I ever get the regular tank pumped up I’ll see how slow I can get it to shoot, I think I would have to put the micro th down to about .040 to see some kind of drop in power.

No it’s not my store.

I’m paid $100 per bird by a very popular grocery store chain, and I sure as heck don’t want to miss or blow holes in their roofs. I talked to the guy at Talon Tunes, and he recommended, since I want to use the gun for casual Field Target shooting out to about 55 yards, that I have the gun tuned for that activity first, around 850fps or so, then just simply put on the micro-meter tank and adjust the scope. I think this is what a lot of Wildlife and Fisheries guys are doing (using the Micro tank). If the gun is set up like this (850 or so fps), does anybody have any idea what the fps would be from the Micro tank just being screwed on? What if the Co2 were screwed on?

I’m thinking about the laser, since I won’t have to shoot over about 75′ tops, and since the gun should basically shoot in a straight line at that distance, but I’m afraid it might scare the birds off when I flash them with it. I don’t know.

Well Rob that was non eventful, I turned down the pw to 0, and the speed only dropped down to 650’s, I would probably have to mess with the th to maybe make any change, right now I have the th at .085, and the adj. of pw cranks it from 650 to 670’s. 8.2 superpoints.

I’ll try and see if I can do a decent low shot string on the micro tomarrow and post the results.

I’d be interested in seeing that. I had contemplated the micro tank before. Note that my comments was regarding the standard tank. But yes, I know I’d be particularly interested in a string with the micro tank.

I’ll try and see if I can do a decent low shot string on the micro tomarrow and post the results.

Turning down the Talon to that low of power will result in wild shot to shot consistency. You *may* be able to find a sweet spot in the lower fill pressures that will allow you a decent string, but it will be hard.

If you are wanting to drive birds out of a grocery store, lasers are the safest for your store…. I’m assuming it’s your store. Most wildlife damage control agents I know of use lasers inside stores for birds. Scares the shit out of them.

Power setting 8, I’m sure you can tune the Talon down, the ad says from 400 to 1000fps. You are going to have to have your scope set for the slow speed also. That sounds crazy as hell shooting in the store, but if 400fps is what you are looking for I think you can turn the pw all the way down and keep your pressure between 2500 and 2000, I don’t reccomend you go into the lower pressures or your velocity may go up even with the pw on 0.

Hi Jaybirdo,

Just bought a Talon SS, and I want to shoot birds inside of grocery stores with it. Don’t know how low regular HPA will shoot at lowest setting, perhaps you know, but am considering Co2. 450fps might be perfect. How accurate is it at this pressure? I don’t think I’d ever have to shoot over 25 yards (75 feet) max. And what power setting did you have it on?

Maw,

Thanks for the input on the Micro-meter tank. I was considering it, but if the velocity is around 660fps, I think thats too much in a store. What powere setting was that at?

Thanks Both,
Scrench

660fps with a 8.2grn.
