Q:

Real world 100 yard groups with Ranger 45

Well today I got in a different alloy, pure lead, from Rotometals.

I removed the 20-1 alloy from my pot and quickly cast up 15 bullets that miked at .4535 and weighed 416 grans, they were not sized or lubed.

I had just yesterday moved a 6×3 foot stump of Madrone to the 100 yard line as a backstop, so I could shoot at a full 100 yards and not create a vacant house downrange 500 yards thru the forest.

The group on the right was shot with dead calm conditions off the hood of the Explorer, Caldwell range bag, tethered at 4000PSI, hi setting, on 7 power Burris 2×7 Fullfield, with dead calm wind. The second group was after a 5 MPH wind from right to left, 90 degrees came up. I did not allow for the wind, just to see how far it moved the 416 grain bullets.

Interesting to note that the scope is parallax free at this range.

Edit note: I just shot 3 shots with the 416 grain bullets, over the chrony at 4400 PSI, 15 feet, 843 FPS. 903 FPS ahd 875 FPS.

Yeah, I am stoked, I am really stoked about the 903 FPS reading on the Chrony today. I believe that is 750 FPE, and inch groups, hard to imagine better.

Handloader.com is down, so what this means in improved trajectory I do not know yet.

Fact is today it shot as well as my Condor does at 100 yards, basically the same veleocity, it is just that the projectiles weight 416 grains instead of 25 grains. 😯

Not bad at all RC.

Don’t blame the wind on the one bad shot though, LOL. It didnt move the other 2. 😉
