Q:

Recrowning .25 bullpup barrel

Hi folks,

I might need to recrown the barrel on my Cricket .25 bullpup. I have done a few crowns on my firearms, but I’ve heard 11 degree crown will not work on the cricket due to its moderator design. Is this true? If so, what would you recommend?

Thanks in advance

Oh, I’ve seen them. But mostly Ernest’s vids have been the main guide in my tuning process. I did look at a few other things, but my main suspect is the crown – I pushed a few pellets through the bore and saw slightly uneven groove engagement. after polishing it, the weaker grooves became a bit more apparent at the crown end.

The accuracy is still fine, 1 3/4 MOA @ 100yds. And more or less a single hole@25. Perhaps I was expecting too much.

I’d make sure before re-crowning is done, if so done properly like Dman said above.

Did you also check other issues that can also cause inaccuracy first ?
Have you been watching FreeManShooting videos ? Careful, I wouldn’t believe or do everything he says …..

There’s some good reads here about the Cricket 25 barrel/gun, do a search.
As UGLY and DIRTY my Cricket barrel crowns are, their the most accurate Bullpups I have ………

Great thank you! I thought there was a proprietary (and critical) alignment of the internal shroud mount and the barrel crown that needed to be maintained when the shroud is screwed onto the barrel, and as a result, an 11 degree crown would not work…

I put the barrel in my lathe and cut from inside out…. really slow with sharp tool. Take only few thousands off….

Then polish it off with 320, 500 600 800 1000 grit paper I. Both directions to make sure no burrs.

It doesn’t really mater the crown can be flat. Or 11deg.. or recessed… the shroud will be covering it.

Thank you Cricket. Polishing the crown is what actually revealed the crown defects – some grooves are not as sharp at their end as others. It is not severe, but 50yd groups are not as tight as i expect them.

Anyone has any knowledge to share on the type of crown needed to work with the shroud?

Is it not enough to simply polish your crowning with autosol?
