Q:

Red Dot Tube or Open

I want to mount an optical system to my Ruger MK III pistol. I figure the requirements are similar to airguns as the ranges are approximately the same 10-50 yards.

So – here’s my question: I’m interested in 2″ groups at 50 yards and would like to hear any thoughts on

* UltraDot 30mm Tube or 25mm Tube, or someone else

compared to a

* Open RedDot by Burris or Ultradot, or someone else

Budget is about $200-$250.

Its a tube. And I keep both the front and rear sunshades on it, and the light intensity as low as possible.

Hog, which red dot do you use, open or tube.

I plan to bench for 2″ at 50yards. I can get 7″ with open but it’s hard as hell. Then for closer range free hand.

I have a red dot on my MKII with the 8″bull barrel, I dont have a steady enough hand for 50 yard 2″ groups, but my wife shoots cherry tomatos off hand @ 35 yards with the setup.

I had the Ultradot on a AR 15, for a red dot it was a fine optic.

Having said that, it would be difficult shooting that kind of group without a conventional scope. The gun itself is certainy capable of it.
